INSTRUCTIONS:

1.  Choose a song that you like or that has a message or means something to you specifically.

  1. Answer the 13 questions below.
  2. Clearly label these literary terms in the poem. (Refer below for specific literary terms.)
  3. Turn in the lyrics (typed or written).
  4. The top responses will be selected to present in class. (I will let you know the day prior so be ready!) If you are selected, you must be able to play the music for the class. (I have a cd player available.) You may play the whole song or part of the song. You must also have the lyrics WITH THE LABELED LITERARY TERMS displayed visually for the class. You can use the overhead (transparencies), boxlight, or provide the class with handouts. Be prepared to explain how the song qualifies as poetry.
  5. Submit this sheet (stapled on top) when you turn in your labeled lyrics to receive a grade.

GRADING: You can only count each literary term once, even if there are several in the song.

100 points Song choice is appropriate.

The required literary terms are present in the song (11+).

90 points Song choice is appropriate.

Some, but not all, of the literary terms are present in the song (8-10).

80 points Song choice is appropriate.

The song only contains about half of the required literary terms (5-7).

70 points Song choice’s appropriateness is questionable.

The song contains less than half of the required literary terms (0-4).
