Job Title: Volunteer Coordinator/Community Organizer
Position Summary: Kentucky River Community Cares’ The Rising Center provides an array of services to adult and child victims of sexual assault, abuse and incest in KRCC’s eight county area. In doing so, it works closely with local health service agencies, criminal justice systems, and social service agencies to ensure a coordinated system of reliable and appropriate care.
The Rising Center is currently seeking a new Volunteer Coordinator/Community Organizer who shares the organization’s passion for working with survivors of sexual violence, and is willing to take a proactive stance towards positive culture change within our communityand eight county region.
Volunteer Coordinator/Community Organizer will report to the Associate Director of The Rising Center and will:
1.Be responsible for specific duties as assigned, e.g.,
- Coordinate the Center’s efforts in provision of sexual abuse and assault education.
- Provide sexual assault prevention and awareness educational programs to schools, professionals, and community groups.
- Coordinate efforts of and provide direct supervision of all persons who devote free service time toward the provision of services for the Center.
- Coordinate the Center’s volunteer training efforts according to Rape Crisis Center guidelines.
- Provide for recruitment, screening, and training of Rape Crisis volunteers.
- Schedule volunteers for “on call” medical advocacy and provide Crisis Line with schedule and volunteer telephone numbers.
- Assist the Rape Crisis Program Manager and/or Director in carrying out service provision goals and completing service provision reports.
2.Prepare and maintain necessary reports and consumer charting.
3.Obtain required training and education hours to meet state / program requirements.
4.Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- The knowledge and skills to function as a strategic planner and leader within grassroots and other organizational system
- Effective customer service skills. Ability to communicate with volunteer leaders and organizational staff with sensitivity. Experience in dealing with a variety of personalities and educational levels
- A strong unwavering commitment to the centers’ mission of cultural change and for addressing sexual victimization in our community
- A demonstrated commitment to social justice
- Driver’s license, vehicle and ability to commute as neededwithin the eight county regionand to meetings/training in Frankfort as required
- Dedication and ability to work flexible hours (including evenings and weekends on some occasions)
- Excellent organizational skills and good attention to detail
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- A high level of self-motivation and a proven ability to work independently as well as collaboratively.
- Problem solving skills.
- Capacity to engage community members one-on-one and run meetings and trainings.
- Comfortable working in community and organizational environments. ( If you require predictability in you day-to-day work and rigid systems, this position may not be for you.)
- Strong commitment to innovation and experimentation – a commitment to creating, testing, “failing” and learning from “failure.”
- Ability to work well with diverse groups and populations
- Willingness to provide direct services (medical and legal advocacy) as needed, such as rape crisis response to the hospitals in the region
- Willing to work with special populations/groups (including but not limited to Drug Court and Rehabilitation)
- Willingness and ability to work directly with victims of sexual response and interact with them as a member of the crisis intervention team
Work Environment:
- The Volunteer Coordinator will work out of The Rising Center office in Hazard KY. The office is handicap accessible and ergonomically friendly. This location may change based on the needs of the center and available space in the 8 county region (Breathitt, Leslie, Letcher, Wolfe, Knott, Perry, Owsley, Lee)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS: BA with relevant experience and approval from state.
