1. An Orchid Show sponsored by the Greater Cincinnati

Orchid Society will be held at Krohn Conservatory,

1501Eden Park Dr. Cincinnati, Oh, March 17 & 18, 2012.

2. Exhibitors may set up between 1:00 PM and 10:00 PM, Friday, March 16, 2012 at show registration, Exhibits must be in place by 10:00 PM, Friday, March 16, 2012 (exception- orchid in use entries and arrangements may be placed on the table until 7:15 AM on Saturday March17, 2012 but must be registered prior to 8:30 PM Friday, March 16, 2012).

Krohn Conservatory will be open to show participants

7:00 AM – 5:00 PM Saturday, March 17, 2012 and 8:30 AM– 6:30 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012 (back door only both mornings until 10:00 AM). Tear-down is to begin promptly at 5:00 PM Sunday, March 18, 2012.

3. Greater Cincinnati Orchid Society and Krohn Conservatory in Eden Park are not responsible for loss or damage to any plant, blooms, corsages, artistic elements, containers or other property of exhibitors or vendors, but precautions will be exercised for their safety.

4. Requests for exhibition space should be received no later than March 15, 2012. Mail requests to: Stan Better, 9507 Benchmark Lane, Cincinnati, OH, 45242, phone 513-745-0014, e-mail –. All reasonable effort will be made to provide the amount of space requested, but should available space be less than expected, the show committee reserves the right to limit space allocated to any exhibitor.

5. The exhibitor agrees, upon requesting show entry, to

abide by the rules and regulations of this show.

6. The orchid show will be open to the public

Saturday, March 17, 2012, 11:00 AM - 5:00 PM and

Sunday, March 18, 2012, 10:00 AM - 5:00 PM.

7. Admission to Krohn for the public costs $2.00. Exhibitors, judges and other show participants may enter free.

8. Exhibits must remain in place until 5:00 PM Sunday,

March 18, 2012.

9. All signs displaying the exhibitor and vendor names

will be provided by Greater Cincinnati Orchid Society.

No other identification signs will be permitted.

10. Staging partitions will be furnished without cost. All

other props, foliage plants, etc. must be furnished by

the exhibitor.

11. Foliage plants, moss, etc., may supplement exhibits, but

no flowering plant other than orchids nor shall any

artificial plants or grass be used in any display.

12. Any lighting used for effect is the responsibility of and

must be furnished by, the exhibitor. Effect lighting, not

color corrected, may be turned off until after judging.

13. All plants or cut flowers exhibited for competition

must be properly labeled for the duration of the show

without identification of the owner. These labels will

be provided by the show registration from information

provided by the exhibitor.

14. No cut flower will be permitted in a flowering plant

exhibit; no flowering plant will be permitted in a

cut flower exhibit. No dyed flowers permitted.

15. A meristem plant or cut flower may not be entered

as a seedling blooming for the first time.

16. For the purpose of this schedule, the word “hybrid”

means a cross made within the genus listed, unless

preceded by the word “intergeneric” in which case

two or more different genera are used in the cross.

17. To be judged all exhibits, plants or cut flowers must be

officially entered, by class, with the show registration.

Cut flowers and flowering plants will be considered

equally in judging.

18. An amateur is defined as any person/persons who has

not sold more than a total of two hundred (200) plants and/or blooms in the past year.

19. A miniature is defined as a naturally occurring

diminutive plant in flower, not exceeding six inches

total height - excluding inflorescence, (except for

Cattleya alliance - refer to Class 26)

20. DOUBLE ENTRIES allowed for specimen and first bloom seedling classes

21. Judging will begin at 7:15 AM on Saturday, October 22,

2011.

22. No one, other than properly authorized persons, will

be permitted in the show area during judging.

23. There will be three (3) or more judges accredited by

the American Orchid Society to evaluate plants for

AOS awards at this orchid show. The decision of these judges will be final. The American Orchid Society system of judging will be used in all events.

24. Show judging-- first, second, and third-place ribbons

may be awarded in each class at the discretion of the

judges. Trophies, if recommended, will be awarded

for the designated trophy groups.

25. Judges have the right to award or withhold any

scheduled ribbon or trophy and may subdivide any

trophy class where warranted upon approval of the

show chairman. The show committee of the Greater

Cincinnati Orchid Society may also make any

additional awards as they deem appropriate.

26. Judges and clerks are expected to familiarize them-

selves with these rules and regulations.

27. Entries not in accordance with the schedule may be

disqualified, and the show committee reserves the right

to remove all inferior exhibits or any such part of them.

28. All questions regarding the interpretation or application

of these rules and regulations shall be referred to the

show chair, whose decision shall be final.
