2.2Woodland resource characteristics

The wooded area contains mature ash, horse chestnut, sycamore, lime, oak and yew. There is no understorey or regeneration

2.3Site description

A Victorian park close to the centre of Keighley. The wooded area is situated along the northern and western edges, and is easily accessible. There are some mature ornamental trees in the main part of the park

2.4Significant hazards, constraints and threats

There are no hazards associated with this wood, a constraint to any arboricultural or forestry operations is the presence of the public in this well used park. There is little to pose a threat to the wood
The park is in a conservation area

3.Long term vision, management objectives and strategy

3.1Long term vision

The long term vision is to maintaina predominantly broadleaf wood that will complement the parks’ abilty to provide recreational and educational possibilities for the surrounding community as well as contributing to the aesthetic and biodiversity value of the park.

3.2Management objectives

No. / Objective
1 / Maintain the trees in a safe condition for walkers and park visitors

3.3Strategy

The aim is to produce a wooded area of native broadleaf trees. This will have to be a long term objective since removal of any of these mature trees for reasons other than safety would be unacceptable. If opportunity arises then any replanting would be with native species

3.4Woodfuel initiative

Would you be interested in receiving information on funding opportunities for the purchase of harvesting machinery or wood fuel boilers?
No (delete as appropriate)

4.4.3 Waste disposal and pollution
If any pollutants are brought into the wood during forestry operations they will have been identified in the operational risk assesment and suitable spill kit carried
4.4.4 Protection from unauthorised activities
Acombination of ranger patrols, liason with West Yorkshire Police and reporting by members of the public helps to minimize misuse of the wood
