1.1.1.Accessing iReport
iReport is a web-based application which uses JAVA interpreter to run the interface on your desktop computer. You need to have Java 1.3. or higher installed on your computer before you can access iReport. If you access iReport without Java 1.3., you will see a blank gray screen. You may download Java 1.3. or higher version from Sun Microsystems website. Java is a freely downloaded. In order to download, using your browser, go to and download the latest Java. You may download English only version or All languages version. For most English users, this does not make a difference. Once you have properly installed Java, close all browser windows and start a new browser window (i.e., Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator) and type the address: ireport.stanford.edu After few seconds or minutes depending on your network bandwidth, a login pop-up window will come up for you to enter login and password.
1.1.2.Creating an object
In iReport, an object can be a text box or image. The right hand-side menu bar presents four figures (i.e., rectangle, circle, parallelograms). These figures can be a textbox which can contain texts. Also, files or URLs can be attached to these textboxes. Images are considered objects in iReport. An image can be brought up to the workspace by accessing the image library under TOOLS menu on the top menu bar. Files such as video clips, sound files, and URLs can be attached to image object as well.
1.1.3.Inserting an image to the workspace
Go to TOOLS and choose “My Image Library”. You may upload an image to the My Image Library from desktop computer by clicking UPLOAD button. Also, you may bring images from the image library to your workspace by double-clicking an image or selecting an image and clicking “Insert” button.
1.1.4.Image Libraries
“My image library” is listed under TOOLS menu. My Image Library can be used to store all of personal images to be used in a presentation. Common Image Library is a public library where Users can exchange images. User may export a personal image to the Common Image Library or transfer an image from Common Image Library to “My Image Library” Shared Image Library menu enables user to browse other Users image libraries. Currently, iReport allows everyone to take other User’s images without permission.
