Chris Gardner suggested the Council come up with a proposal, what would this program look like? The questions of could ODE support such a program was asked. Raul Soto indicated it should be a 10 year plan. The plan should have quality and sustainability.
Currently OCTA offers a one day leadership for new administrators twice a year, once in the fall and once in the spring. It was the consensus of the Council that we support the efforts of the Ohio ACTE Board in the concept ofdeveloping a quality program for new administrators. It was understood that understood that the length of participant time commitment, cost, and format would have to be determined if the concept was to move forward with quality in mind.
Raul Soto gave an ODE update topics included: automated Materials Joining Technologies, Race to the Top: CTE Set aside,
Federal Tech Prep, Ohio Executive Budget, and Ohio Tech Prep. (a copy of the report is attached). Some high lights mentioned were:
- President Proposed that tech prep funded until 2013
- Number of Tech Prep Consortia be reduced
- HSTW get increased funds
- Tech Prep expanded enrollment
- New Tech Prep Director
- All programs still need to be transitioned to tech prep by 2013
- Budget cuts needed, we need to rethink structure of tech prep
