The National Certificate in Engineering and Technology (Glass Containers) (Level2) [Ref:0947] is a technical qualification in the glass container manufacturing industry, and builds on the skills gained through the Glass Containers strand of the National Certificate in Materials Processing (Level 1) [Ref: 1072]. It is designed to systematically build specialised glass container manufacturing and related engineering skills and knowledge. It also provides a pathway to higher level qualifications.
Holders of this certificate are typically production operators who are able to undertake limited specialised activities under supervision involving glass container production, inspection, and packaging.
The qualification comprises a requirement for key glass and glass container quality analysis, as well as core mechanical engineering skills and knowledge such as measurement, selection and use of hand tools, safe working practices, and basic engineering drawing and design. An elective section supplements this with a substantial and largely mechanical engineering selection, which can be tailored to meet industry preference and the aspirations and abilities of the individual. The qualification also includes a further elective section designed to provide underpinning knowledge and skills such as interpersonal communications, work and study skills, and reading.
This qualification can lead to the National Certificates in Engineering and Technology (Glass Containers) (Level 3) [Ref:0948] and (Level 4) [Ref:0949].

Previous versions of the qualification
Version 4 was issued to extend the last date for assessments to take place for version 3 of this qualification. The last date for assessments to take place for version 3 was extended to 31 December 2015 and reverse transition arrangements were included.
Version 3 was issued to indicate that this qualification is expiring and contained a standard that had expired. Candidates could complete version 3 of the qualification using the transition arrangements specified above, which were included to allow existing candidates to complete the qualification by using the replacement standards as credit for the expired standard.
Version 2 was issued following review. Changes to structure and content included: standard 18769 was moved from the compulsory to Elective A, List A; standards 17344 and 17345 were replaced respectively by standards 20612 and 20611 in Elective A, List B; and the prerequisite for the qualification was updated.
