08/11 GA Composite Board Meeting- Those present:

Board members: 2 LMFTS, 2 LPCs, 1 LCSW (on the phone the Chair and VC)

Guest: Lisa Morris, LPC, Becky Anne, LCSW (GSCSW), Karen Starks (NASWGA) and Gale Macke (LPCAGA)

HEARINGS: 4 interviews early – all counselors applications. Issues with coursework, hours, and requirements missing.

2018 dates of meeting - same dates as last year.

Correspondence

  • Charlie Safford, LCSW – letter asking for clarification of new rule for SW.

Executive Director – stated the new Law, ACT 377. The board does not interrupt the law or legal advice. But if a person is called into Court the judge may ask “Do you have a diagnose course?”

Update on the new rule by the Executive Director:

The Governor has until Sept 4 to decide on the Rule 135-12. That is the 90th days

If approved, the Licensing board will take 20 days to post as a new rule

The Licensing board can’t answer any questions about the rule – the rule is not “signed”

  • Person asking for exemption to the rules to become licensed. Board reply about being an MFT and LPC. Must adhered to the CACREP standards in order to be licensed as an LPC, again the board states: see rules

Anita SW will call her with an answer, wants to know about the Telemental Health rule – refer to rules

One if the licensing board members is severing on the planning committee for SW boards- Portability

ASWB – wants to tell personal stories at the conference about portability issues

Applicants-school counselor must be practicing

Confirm thatand must have documented extra hours if you don’t have a summer position practicing

Hours can only count if they can prove that they are seeing clients

No answer but the audience said “no, don’t do it”

  • Executive Director stated: military first application: spouse.

License sticky by endorsement (new rule not in effect yet)The applicant is a counselor in VA and SC less than a for military sources: Application approve pending receipt of documentation.

Process –procedures:

Staff approve applications after the board said only a piece or two missing so the application does not have to go back to the board. This will speed up the application process.

Petition of waiver-to have all CEs online. Tabled and ask for current medical records. Discussed - If applicant has updated issues, they will re-instate and audit for 2018

All doc must be received at least fourteen (14) days prior to the next scheduledboard meeting to be consider for board review.
