Zubin Mehta’s WINGS THEATRE ACADEMY
Dear Parents,
As some of you would know that Zubin Mehta’s ‘Wings Theatre Academy’ has being running successfully at the school since April 2015. Here is a chance for your ward to enroll now as there are a few vacant seats. This enrollment shall happen on first-come-first-serve basis.
Theatre as we all understand is as an important educational tool worldwide and plays a significant role in the overall personality development of students. Theatre allows students to make choices and to take responsibility for the consequences of their actions in a safe, respectful and nurturing environment. It also helps students develop a curiosity about their lives, and what matters to them- emotionally, creatively, intellectually, and physically. Theatre Education helps students develop the ability to move from their actual situations and roles into imaginary or assumed situations and roles. This ability gives them unique insights and provides them with a window through which the beliefs and values of cultures may be viewed, explored, understood and challenged.
Theatre is a group activity. A lot of theatre games, exercises and improvisations are done in groups, which help students understand themselves and others. It helps them overcome inhibitions, fears and give an outlet to their feelings, emotions, thoughts, dreams, aspirations and desires. It involves a lot of communication. Communication through voice, gestures, written words, silence, props etc. Perhaps more than any other art form, Theatre provides training in various aspects of communication so necessary in today's increasingly information-centred world. Theatre in Education reinforces the school curriculum. Since communication and empathy are central to Theatre, a student who has explored the same in the theatre classes, will be better able to understand ideas in History, Literature, Languages and current events.
The Wings Theatre Academy intends to give a platform to children to learn Theatre. Theatre training classes will be conducted in the Vivek High School, Sector 38, Chandigarh auditorium and the rehearsal halls of the school. The classes are being conducted every Monday & Wednesday, 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Academy will perform its annual production at the end of the session.
About the Director - Mr.Zubin Mehta is a name to reckon with in children's theatre in the region. He has been actively working with children and youngsters for the last eleven years. Wings Theatre Academy was conceived by him four years ago to give an opportunity to children to learn theatre on a regular basis. He has directed more than 40 plays with children which include some memorable productions like The Tinderbox, Charandas Chor, The Blue Umbrella, Fiddler on the Roof, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and many more.
