SELECTIONS FOR ALBERTA SUMMER GAMES

SUMMARY, NEW INFORMATION AND CHANGES

●  You must register online ASAP to be eligible to swim at the Zone Selection Trials

●  The only fees payable on June 4 is only the Meet Fee of $25.

●  Even though the team will be selected initially on June 4, there are always lots of changes and alternates are needed every year. So be prepared.

●  Swim Alberta will be sending out an online payment link for Summer Games Fees after the team is assembled.

PRE REGISTRATION: All swimmers must pre-register to be eligible to qualify for the Alberta Summer Games. Please see link below.

The completion of this link includes, waiver submission online, this process can take some time, please register early.

Eligibility:

1.  All swimmers must be registered with Swim Alberta

a.  Option 1 member of a Swim Alberta year‐round program

b.  Option 2 member of the Alberta Summer Swimming Association

c.  Option 3 For swimmers who are not a member of either of these groups, they may purchase an affiliation membership with Swim Alberta for $15.00. This fee will allow the swimmer to participate in the Alberta Summer Games and the zone trials. For further information, please contact the Swim Alberta office at (780) 415‐1780.

2.  Athletes team must reside in Zone 4 as defined by Alberta Summer Games Boundaries.

Meet Rules: Current SNC and FINA rules shall govern the meet. SNC warm up procedures will apply. FINA one start rule will be in effect.

Age Groups male & female

• Category 1: Swimmer born in 2001

• Category 2: Swimmer born in 2002

• Category 3: Swimmer born in 2003

• Category 4: Swimmer born in 2004

• Category 5: Para-swimmer Classes S1-S14, or Special Olympic swimmers born 1992- 2002

Entry Fees: Entry fees will be $25 per swimmer. All cheques are made payable to Red Deer Marlins Swim Club. Clubs please send one chq for all swimmers.

ENTRY Deadline: All entries must be received by May 28, 2016.

·  SWIM TEAMS YEAR ROUND: Entries must be submitted via the Swimming Canada meet list by May 28, 2016. https://www.swimming.ca/en/events-results/live-upcoming-meets/

●  ASSA SWIM TEAMS: Entries from ASSA clubs must be entered into the ASSA meet program on the Red Deer Invitational and ASG Zone Trials Meet. Please notify meet manager by the meet entry deadline which of your athletes are participating in ASG trials, by email to:

●  INDIVIDUALS: Entries can be sent to: please include your swimmers birth date and affiliation number with your email as well as your Swim Alberta ID.

Please note, the mailing address of the athletes team will be used to select the zone and not the athletes address. Please ensure this information is complete.

All events are timed finals. Results for the ASG Zone trials will be filtered to the ASG registered participants for result posting. The ASG Trial events will run in event order of the Red Deer Marlins Summer Club Invitational Meet as a separate event.

Selection Criteria:

Swimmers entering the Selection Competitions, who wish to stand for the team, must register online.

Zone Trial Entry Fees are due prior to the first race. Clubs may pay swimmers entry fees in their entirety via cheque. Any non club swimmers may pay their own entry fees with the Clerk of the Course via Chq or Cash.

NEW - Swim Alberta will collect the Summer Games fee once the team has been selected.

Zone Team Composition

The maximum team size shall be: 28 swimmers per zone

○  (3 females, 3 males) from Category 1

○  (3 females, 3 males) from Category 2

○  (3 females, 3 males) from Category 3

○  (3 females, 3 males) from Category 4

○  (2 females, 2 males) from Category 5

○  2 coaches per zone (1 male and 1 female coach)

○  4 chaperones per zone (2 male and 2 female chaperones)

○  2 additional coaches per zone (1 male and 1 female specifically for S14 or Special Olympic swimmers of the same gender)

Category 1, 2, 3, and 4:

Selection Events: 100 Free, 100 back, 100 Breast, 200IM and 50 Fly. Swimmers must swim all five events. Only these individual events will be used to select the Zone 4 team.

●  First Round Selection

o  Points used for aggregate score are needed and the top three swimmers will be selected.

o  Points: 1st = 7 points; 2nd = 5 points; 3rd = 4 points, 4th= 3 points, 5th= 2 points, 6th= 1 point

o  Should there be a tie for the third and/or alternate position(s), follow the second round selection.

●  Second Round Selection

o  In the event of a tie, the swimmer with the better placing in the 200IM shall break the tie.

Category 5

Selection Events: Swimmers will be selected based on the highest combined score in three events using the SNC Para-Swimming points chart. Special Olympic athletes will use the S14 classification (cognitive disability) for the purpose of scoring.

Alternates

ALTHOUGH THERE ARE ALTERNATES, IT IS ASSUMED IF YOU SUBMIT YOUR NAME AND RACE FOR ZONE TEAM POSITIONS AT TRIAL COMPETITIONS, YOU WILL ATTEND THE GAMES. IF THERE IS AN ISSUE PLEASE INFORM JANA ASAP.

SECONDARY SELECTION CRITERIA:

The secondary selection procedure is an option for zones that have empty selection spots available on their team after the zone trials. To be eligible for secondary selection swimmers must register as an athlete on the Alberta Games website prior to the zone trials.

Athlete performance times for competitions held between April 29 and June 5, 2016 will be ranked according to the following criteria.

Step 1: Short course and long course 50 freestyle times will be ranked using current FINA points. The top one or two swimmers not already selected to the zone will be offered selection.

Step 2: Short course and long course times will be ranked using current FINA points from the following events. The highest FINA point swim from athletes not already selected will determine selection.

Backstroke
50 & 100 / Breaststroke
50 & 100 / Butterfly
50 & 100 / Individual Medley
100 & 200

RESULTS:

Unofficial results will be posted at the venue but final team selection will be emailed to the swimmers and coaches as soon as possible to take into account alternates and any swimmers with conflicts.
