2014 Annual
TYCAM Conference
“Zombies, Vampires, and Superheroes, Oh My: New Approaches to Teaching”
Friday, September 19, 2014
Hilton Hotel
Jackson, Mississippi
TYCAM is the Two-Year College English Association of Mississippi. Founded in 2003, our organization was originally a result of group meetings to prepare for and host the 2005 TYCA-SE regional meeting in Jackson. Our mission and focus grew.
We are affiliated with and based upon The Two-Year College English Association, Southeast, which is a part of NCTE (National Council of Teachers of English). TYCAM and TYCA-SE seek to enhance English instruction in community and junior colleges and to promote collegiality among members.
TYCAM members have written and edited two textbooks, For Our Students and For Our Students: Expanded Edition. The teachers who did this work received no compensation from the organization or the publisher. They did the work to provide quality, affordable textbooks for their students and to ensure a consistent revenue stream for the organization. Because of the efforts of these teachers, the organization—in concert with the State Board of Community and Junior College—has been able to provide an annual conference that requires no fees or charges from its members.
We are the only state organization that has done this type of work, thanks to our dedicated, hard-working members.
