ZACHARY COMMUNITY SCHOOL BOARD MINUTES
May 16, 2013
The Zachary Community School Board Meeting was held on May 16, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at 3755 Church Street, Zachary, Louisiana.
The Invocation was led by Mr. Dykes.
The Pledge of Allegiance was led by Mrs. Rogers.
ROLL CALL: Mrs. Young, Mr. Swilley, Mrs. Samuel, Mr. Mackie, Mr. Owen, Mrs. Rogers, Mr. Smith, Mr. Dykes, and Mr. Dayton
APPROVAL OF MINUTES APRIL 25, 2013 BOARD MEETING
Mr. Mackie moved to approve the minutes from the April 25, 2013 Board Meeting. Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.
There was no public comment.

SUPERINTENDENT REPORT
Mr. Devillier thanked everyone for coming out tonight. Port Hudson Graduation will be this Monday, May 20, 2013, at Zachary First Baptist Church, at 6:00 p.m. Zachary High School will have its Graduation on Tuesday, May 21, 2013, at Bethany Church, at 6:30 p.m. The Zachary High School Baseball Team is State Runner Up for State 5A. Mr. Devillier introduced Erica Henry as Zachary High School Assistant Principal and Keisha Thomas as Principal at Copper Mill Elementary.
RECOGNITION OF YOUNG AUTHORS WINNERS
The board recognized the following Young Authors Winners:
Brian Landry; Hannah Lopez; Landon Walls; Lilly Carter; Abby Yoes; Kaitlyn Kahn; Brandi Moak; and P. Skylier Castello. The board presented each one with a certificate.
Angie Cassard, principal at Copper Mill Elementary, told the board that we had three Young Author Winners that were also State Winners. They will receive a medal and a book of their story. The State Winners are:
Hannah Lopez; Landon Walls; and Kaitlyn Kahn.
RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL MOCK TRIAL TEAM
The board recognized the Zachary High School Mock Trial Team for winning State Championship. Members of the ZHS Mock Trial Team are: Allison Burton; Kathy Cop; Regan Helmick; Rachel Russell; Jackie Odom; Katlin Maloy; and Jordan Kozar. The board presented each one with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL STATE WINER OF THE NIAAA STUDENT ATHLETE ESSAY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM
The board recognized Bryanna Fields as the State Winner of the NIAAA Student Athlete Essay Scholarship Program. The board presented Bryanna with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL INDOOR AND OUTDOOR STATE CHAMPION IN BOY'S LONG JUMP
The board recognized Donald Gage for the Indoor and Outdoor State Champion in the boy's long jump. The board presented Donald with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF 2013 ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL STATE CHAMPIONSHIP OLYMPIC WEIGHTLIFITING TEAM
The board recognized Bryanna Fields; Kaylan Hebert; and Chelsea Soileau as the Girls State Championship Olympic Weightlifting Team. The board presented each one with a certificate.
The board recognized Kyle Durbin; Cole Escher; Tyler Wade; Nick Maxey; Roderick Johnson; Perri Prevost; Boston Scott; Chris Wright; Chris Taylor; Corey Grinner; and Ty Simpson as the Boys State Championship Olympic Weightlifting Team. The board presented each one with a certificate.
RECOGNITION OF RETIREES
The board recognized the following Retirees:
Margaret Altazin; Connie Gilbert; Paula Helmick; Cynthia Huckabee; Cathy Mitchell; David Murray; Claire Speeg; Brenda Taylor; Patrick Taylor; and Dana Vicellio.
The board presented each one with a certificate and a plaque.
RECOGNITION OF ZACHARY COMMUNITY DISTRICT OUTSTANDING SUPPORT EMPLOYEES OF 2013
The board recognized the following as the Zachary Community District Outstanding Support Employees of 2013:
Willie Parker- Maintenance; Earlenne Stevenson - Sassy; and Cindy Todd - Main Office.
The board presented each one with a certificate and a plaque.
ALTERNATIVE SCHOOL
Mr. Dayton moved to approve to enter into contract with Trinity Christian School as the Alternative School. Mrs. Samuel seconded the motion.

Mr. Swilley moved to go into Executive Session and Mr. Owen seconded the motion.
