Dear Year 6,

What a shame – we have to miss a day of school because it’s snowing. Never mind – I don’t want you to be bored so here is a list of activities that you can do.

When you have finished, email me to let me know which activities you have tackled and how you think you have done. It’s a little bit like an electronic ‘green pen comment’. I look forward to reading your comments.

Maths

  • Practice all of your times tables using

The easiest way to find this is to search for ‘Hit the Button game Top Marks’

  • Practice multiplying and dividing by 10, 100, 1000 – use the attached worksheet. You can either print it and write on the worksheet or you can copy the questions from the screen onto a sheet of paper to answer. You could also copy the worksheet, type answers onto it and email it to me.
  • Practice division using this web site. There are 3 different ability levels for you to try.

English

  • Reading – finish your reading book and complete a Book Review. You will find a copy of both the Factual and Fictional Book Review sheets attached. Be careful – you do not need to print the first page of the document.
  • Spellings – practice spellings for this week – you have all been given 2 copies but you will find a copy attached if you have lost yours. You could time yourself writing all of the words 10 times each (like Fast Learning for Spellings). You could also make your own Word Search for your spelling list by going to

Topic Research

As you know, our new topic is about the local area around Clayhanger. Go online to see what maps you can find that show Clayhanger – past or present. Try looking for different scales too (this means maps which are close in and also those which show a wider area). Try to identify any areas that you know – maybe find your own house (if it is a recent map) and work out how you could walk to school.
