Function/Team:Oasis Hub Hadley

Hours:36 hours per week, inclusive of breaks, 0.9 FTE

Unsocial Working:Regular evening work will be expected with occasional weekend work.

Location:North Middlesex Accident andEmergencyDepartment (A&E), Oasis Community: Hub Hadley (Enfield).

This Youth Development Outreach Worker will be provided with working space within A&E. Additional office space will be provided in the Community Services office, at Oasis Hub Hadley.

Organisational context:

This post will strategically link with Oasis Hub Hadley.

Purpose of Job:

The aim of the project is to provide additional support for young people who enter the Accident and Emergency Department at North Middlesex hospital as a result of a gang activity and violent injury by

a)Working in a youth work function to help link young people into existing community based services, depending on their needs

b)Working in a youth work function that delivers one-to-one support and mentoring to young people who engage with the A&E as a result of a violent incident

c)Being a physical presence in the department, and developing the skills of staff within A&E in engaging with young people who come into A&E as a result of a violent incident

Specific Duties:

(Strategy/Planning/Organising)

  1. The primary purpose of the role is to lead andparticipate in a youth mentoring outreach service with young people who come into the A&E as a result of gang activity and violent injury.
  1. To risk assess and investigate the needs of the vulnerable young people who have attended the A&E or the minor injury unit (MIU), working with the safeguarding children board
  1. Work with young people both within the hospital and the community to ensure they are linked in to appropriate services
  1. Work closely with existing Oasis projects and LBE Community Safety Team, and other relevant agencies, to develop and evaluate a model of care that enables them, where appropriate, to benefit from existing community based interventions.
  1. Build capacity of hospital staff in dealing with young people involved with violence
  1. Oversee the evaluation, strategy, and development of the project in an ongoing process in.cluding running a quarterly steering group with partners
  1. Occasionally represent Oasis and talk about Oasis Youth Support at appropriate events run by the NHS, Councils and youth providers.
  1. Initiate and facilitate conversation between the Hospital and Oasis Hub Hadley and LBE as appropriate

  1. Oversee high quality information gathering and sharing to track the support to individual young people and the overall success of the project

Responsibility for Resources:

  1. To be involved in the preparation of the annual budget for the project and accountable for expenditure, financial data and reporting, in conjunction with the Community Services Team Leader
  1. Delegated use of project budget and accountability for project resources

General Duties:

  • Attend relevant networks, organisation and inter agency meetings.
  • Ensure own professional competence remains sufficient to provide effective support by seeking support for your practice and development.
  • Keep up to date on the range of agencies working locally in order to maintain knowledge of services that parent/carers might be signposted to.
  • Keep up to date with local and national developments within policies and practice and keep informed of relevant legislation.
  • Attend team meetings, supervision and training.
  • Participate in internal and cross-organisation working groups as appropriate for exchange of information and best practice.
  • Complete the administrative duties relevant to the role, including planning, record keeping, data base and reports.
  • Carry out routine administrative tasks.
  • Participate in the Hub Performance Management processes.
  • Promote the work of Oasis by all appropriate means, including public speaking.

PERSON SPECIFICATION

Essential / Desirable
Qualifications / A relevant professional qualification in Youth & Community (JNC) or Teaching (QTS) or Social Work (QSW), or appropriate experience.
Job knowledge/experience / Enhanced CRB
Experience of working in a youth/community setting that has been affected by youth crime
Experience of mentoring / supporting young people
Knowledge of child protection practices
Knowledge of health and safety / Experience with working with multi agencies
A knowledge or experience of how hospitals work / function
Skills / Excellent oral/written communication skills
Able to work on own initiative
Able to function in diverse settings and with a wide range of professional agencies
Presentation skills
Organisational, administrative, and data recording / Report writing and monitoring
Other / Self-motivated, able to work alone and as part of a team
Able to take initiative and work under pressure
Reliable

First Aid trained or willing to be trained
