Under-11 Lady Taverners

Oxford Downs won the Oxfordshire round of the Under-11 Lady Taverners Competition held at Freeland on Sunday, beating Aston Rowant.

The Under-11 Lady Taverners is a softball competition using the “pairs” format and the sides played a two-match rubber, with Downs winning both games.

The first match was very closely fought with Downs winning by one run, but the second was more convincing with Downs finishing on 302 in reply to Aston Rowant’s 287.

Phoebe Maslen and Tash Miller each made 15 not out for Downs, both innings including a six, and Maslen also took two wickets plus a brilliant diving catch on the mid-wicket boundary. For Aston Rowant Anabelle Asher made 34 and Aimee Diab 16 not out, and Saskia Driver-Jones took 3 wickets including a double wicket maiden off the penultimate over of the game.

Under-15 Girls League

In a nail-biting finish, Best of the West hung on for a one-run victory over Charlbury at Combe on Wednesday.

After being put in to bat, the West Oxfordshire side struggled against some accurate bowling from the visitors and wickets fell at regular intervals. Lucy Thomas held things together with 18 and Rebecca Woodnorth chipped in with 16 to see them to 72 for 6 off their 16 overs.

In reply, Miranda Edwards got Charlbury off to a good start with an unbeaten 25 and the visitors were in the driving seat with six needed off the last over and eight wickets in hand. However, a run out off the final ball left them stranded on 71 for 4. Woodnorth had an impressive evening behind the stumps with an excellent leg-side catch and a stumping to her name.

Under-11 Competition

In an exciting finish at Combe, the hosts overcame Shipton-under-Wychwood with four balls to spare. For the visitors, an unbeaten 25 from Aidan Wilkinson and 19 from Dan Pratley saw them to 81 for 8, Adam Lang picking up 3 for 12. Freddie Leydon then saw Combe off to a good start with 23 and the hosts reached the target in the last over.

At Thame the hosts held off Banbury’s challenge to win by 13 runs. Jack Pember with 26 not out led the hosts to 92 for 4 before Banbury were restricted to 79 for 3

A partnership of 40 between Dan Baldwin and Joe Coggins saw Cropredy home at Bicester & North Oxford

At Great & Little Tew, visitors Minster Lovell made 114 for 3 after being inserted thanks to an unbeaten 26 from Jack Spearman. In reply Thomas Taylor with an unbeaten 27 and Oliver Brooks with 28 led the charge for Tew who squeezed home with two balls to spare.

Under-11 Development League

In an exciting game at Challow & Childrey which went to the last ball the hosts just kept their noses in front of East & West Hendred to win by 1 run.

Joshua Hunter made 23 and Felix Hunt 21 as Banbury beat Oxford & Bletchington Nondesripts by 109 runs.

Owen Dore made 15 and Luke Heritage 20 in Horspath’s win over Cropredy.

Under-13 League

At Oxford, three wickets apiece by Christian Holt and Alex Dawson helped Challow & Childrey to restrict the hosts to 61 for 8. An unbeaten 24 from Freddie Robson then saw the visitors home with 8 wickets in hand.

Minster Lovell “A” posted 111 for 5 led by an unbeaten 2 from Jamie Snowden. In reply, Sacha Sandelson made 26 for visitors Kidlington but it was not enough as they subsided to 77 all out. Charlie South did most of the damage with 5 for 14.

At Hook Norton the hosts won a closely fought game by 6 runs. James Ingham with an unbeaten 30 and Nat Cherry with 29 steered them to 15 for 6 and in reply visitors Bicester & North Oxford closed on 109 for 9, Ingham capping a fine all round performance by taking 3 for 21.

Wootton & Boars Hill enjoyed a comfortable home win over Minster Lovell “B”. Cameron King returned figures of 3 for 15 as the visitors were bowled out for 60 before an unbeaten 34 from Oliver Graham saw the hosts across the line.

Abingdon Vale had an emphatic win at Buscot Park with Tom Ferris (30 not out), Will Guthrie (30 not out), Matthew Bell (28) and Harry Philips (27) to the fore as they rattled up 152 for 3. In replt Buscot Park mustered 84 for with Zak Trivedi 30 not out.

Kingston Bagpuize amassed an imposing 163 without loss at Kennington, With Ethan Davie, Ethan McEllan and Ed Murray all on 30 and Alex Newing 32. In reply Kennington were dismissed for 75, Harry Trowbridge top scoring with an unbeaten 32 and Ed Murray returning 3 for 4 from three overs.

There was a tremendous game at Didcot where Aston Rowant won the toss and elected to bat and amassed 135 for 3 from their 20 overs with Louis Summons and Toby Francis both unbeaten on 30. In reply Oscar Bean set things up for the hosts with 30 not out and the game went to the last over with Didcot requiring 9 to win. Louis Summons took two wickets in consecutive ballsand then a run out left Didcot needing 4 off the last ball for the scores to be tied but they were unable to achieve it finishing on 133 for 9.

Freeland had their first league win of the season at Oxford Downs. The hosts posted 82 for 8 with Nathan Walton 30 not out and Fin Whiteman 28. Ben Sherliker was the pick of the Freeland bowlers with 3 for 16. In reply Freeland came home by five wickets with Ben Lloyd unbeaten on 30 and Freddie Basil taking 3 for 17 for Downs.

Cumnor won at Combe with Ollie Dean 30 not out and Amar Madar 29 in their 138 for 8. In relpy Combe were 75 for 9 with Connor Kirby 35 not out.

Gauntlett Goblet

At Charlbury, the hosts managed to contain Chadlington’s in-form Sam Ratcliffe and George Chipchase. Charlbury’s young bowlers consistently took wickets and the visitors finished on 212.

Charlbury’s batsmen then all chipped in with steady performances enabling them to finish on 283 with 15 not out from Adam Ede, 14 not out from William Huddleston and 23 not out from Ben Williamson.

At Abingdon Vale, Yusuf Rahim took 3 for 19 for the hosts as Brightwell-cum-Sotwell made 202. In an impressive batting performance, Fraser Beland hit 30, George Benfield 23 and Mikey Nichol 22 as Vale amassed 324.

Under-15 Competition

In the Under-15 Quarter Finals, Shipton-under-Wychwood recorded a 10 wicket victory over Bicester & North Oxford. Bicester & North Oxford made a bright start with Charlie Moss (16) and Lewis Moore (29) adding 56 for the first wicket. Both batsmen then fell to Cameron Knox who ended with figures of 4 for 9 andElliot Hale was left to marshal them to 103 off their 20 overs. In reply Charlie Miller (53 not out) and Harry Davies (33 not out) both batted well to steer Shipton safely to victory.

Thame beat Abingdon Vale by nine wickets thanks to Ben Buckland with 40 and Christian Warwick with 47.

Great & Little Tew came out of the blocks very quickly and built on this platform to finish on a healthy score of 198 for 2 with Charlie Brown unbeaten on 50, James Babbage 53 and Owen Maginnis 42. In reply Minster Lovell would have needed to score at 10 an over to win the game and despite a fine innings from Ollie Mersh who clocked up a half century, Tew’s bowlers were accurate and kept their opponents to well below the required run rate.

Aston Rowant proved too strong for Buscot Park thanks to a fine all-round performance from Ben Coldicott whose unbeaten 52 led them to 145 for 9. Charlie Morgan was the pick of the Buscot Park bowlers with 3 for 14. Coldicott then picked up three wickets himself as Buscot Park finished on 95 for 6.

An unbeaten 50 from James McClellan saw Pangbourne & Whitchurch to a nine wicket win over Kingston Bagpuize.

Challow & Childrey posted 119 for 2 against Oxford with George Kumar 51 not out, Fishburne taking a hat trick for Oxford. However, this was not enough as Oxford came home by two wickets. Deanna Stamp was the pick of the bowlers for Challow & Childrey with 3 for 11.

Ben Church returned figures of 3 for 24 for Hook Norton as Combe reached 122 for 8, Cairan Northwood top scoring with 31. In reply, an unbeaten 44 from Elliot Barton backed up by 33 from Dan Anthistle saw Hook Norton home with six wickets in hand.

An unbeaten 49 from George Tait saw Banbury to a nine wicket victory over Kidlington.

Schools Cricket

In the Under-13 League, an unbeaten half century from James Bateman helped Gosford Hill to 131 for 2, St. Gregory the Great closing on 82 for 6 in reply. James Mattinson took a hat trick for Wood Green as they won the all-Witney clash against Henry Box by four wickets. James Ingham took 3 for 9 for Chipping Norton as Marlborough were skittled out for 51 in reply to Chipping Norton’s 14 for 2.

The Under-12 Bunbury Cup semi-finals saw Magdalen College School overcome Burford by seven wickets thanks to 38 from Henry Pretorious. Abingdon beat Lord William’s by four wickets in the other semi.

Jamie Revill’s 58 saw Lord William’s into the semi-finals of the Under-14 ECB Trophy, but they then fell to a powerful performance by Abingdon who made an impressive 206 for 4 with James Coombes scoring 65. In the other semi-final Tom Chesser with 41 helped Magdalen College School to a comfortable win over Bloxham.

In the Under-14 League an unbeaten 56 from George Tait saw Warriner to 141 for 1 against Marlborough who were restricted to 93 for 9 in reply.

There was a rare tied game in the Under-15 Premiership Henry Box (Witney) scored 137 for 5 with Wes Spearman 58 and Olly Mersh 34, but King Alfred’s matched their score with 137 for 6.

In the Under-15 League, Sam Payne took 4 for 12 and Sam Powell 3 for 4 as Cherwell School dismissed Oxford Spires for 46 in reply to their 96 for 8. There were also three wickets for Elliot Hale as Bicester Community College bowled out Cooper School for 59 on the way to a nine wicket victory. An unbeaten 63 from Aaron McCreadie backed up by 32 from Ben Weller saw Bartholomew to 121 without loss. In a spirited reply Warriner closed on 94 for 6. Dan Collins made 43 as Lord William’s posted 138 for 6 before dismissing Bartholomew for 74.
