Youth & Children’s Pastor

Position Description: The person serving as Youth and Children’s Pastor will oversee the ministriesto the children & youth, from age 0 through high school of First Missionary Church, in a manner that is consistent with the vision and mission of First Missionary Church. He/She will also provide pastoral care and nurture to the families in these age groups.

Responsibilities:

  • Pray faithfully for children and youth, leadership staff and students. Be a model of Christian love, holy living and passion for the things of God to these people.
  • Establish and execute a strategy for discipleship of children through youth thatintegrates with and contributes to the overall vision and strategy of our church.
  • Initiate, direct and supervise all aspects of the Children & Youth ministries. This requires regularly and intentional communication ofministry objectives andstrategies,andtheir functional implementationto volunteers andthe senior pastor.
  • Recruit, mentor and motivate volunteer leaders, and cultivate this team to execute the ministry strategy, by meeting together regularly and by providing appropriate training for their roles.
  • Teach regularly and mentor members of the leadership teams as teachers in the ministry.
  • Update and maintain social media presence for Children’s & Youth Ministries.
  • Model relational ministry by investing in personal contact with kids, students, leaders, and their families (visits to students when hospitalized or having surgery, calls, notes, social media interaction, crisis intervention, presence at events, etc.), and equip and motivate volunteer leadership staff to do the same.
  • Communicate regularly with volunteer leaders, students and parents, providing information about current/upcoming events, plans and ministry needs.
  • Participate in weekly staff meetings and work cooperatively with other church staff members and ministry leaders to help the church accomplish its calling. This would include assisting the senior pastor and staff with the ministries of the church according to giftedness (e.g., occasional preaching if so gifted, covering emergency pastoral care matters, etc.)
  • Meet consistently with Senior Pastor to maintain clear communication, track progress and address ministry needs.
  • Help to initiate and resource FMC’s ministry with young adults, working closely with the Worship and Young Families Pastor.
  • Carry out ministry in a manner that represents the church with professionalism and courtesy and prescribes to a biblical understanding of appropriate personal and professional conduct by self and family members.
  • Utilize annual evaluation process to determine opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare professionally for growth in ministry through approved continuing education, reading and research.

Requirements:

  • Has at least a B.S. degree or an equivalent, with an emphasis on either Christian education, youth, children’s or family ministries.
  • Has at least 5 years in a church ministry focusing on Christian education, Children’s, Youth or Family ministries.
  • Has a proven track record of service in a church of similar size (or larger), with an emphasis on discipleship of volunteers, ministry teams, and effective recruitment and deployment of workers.
  • Is in agreement with the doctrinal position of The Missionary Church, inc. and is in agreement with the stated philosophy and approach to ministry of First Missionary Church, Fort Wayne.
  • Has a supportive family situation, where all are willing and able to become part of the First Missionary Church community, and of the Fort Wayne community locally.

Remuneration: Will be determined based on experience and education. Salary range is between $40,000 and $52,000. In addition, this full time position will include medical, dental and vision insurances. Vacation time will be 2 weeks the first year, with one week study leave.

Note: It is hoped the successful candidate will make a two year commitment at a minimum, and will make an effort to live near the church. A key goal of the first year will be to launch a mid week evening children’s outreach program, that will be connected with our Sunday morning program activities, and relate well with the youth ministry.
