Your Task:Develop an opinion on the fairy-tale you have read.

  1. In your books make 5 dot points about your opinion on the fairy-tale story.

1. Choose a character and describe their physical characteristics. Eg – what do they look like? (hair colour, eye colour, shape of their face)what do they sound like? What do they wear?

2. What does their physical characteristics ‘say’ about them. Eg – The step mother is described as having a long nose, I think this is to make her appear more like a witch.

Example:

Snow White has lovely short, black hair. Her lips are nice and read and they match her round face. Snow White’s voice is very squeaky and mouse like.

Responding to Literature

Your Task:Develop an opinion on the fairy-tale you have read.

1. Meyers / Tolkien

In your books develop an opinion and respond to the following statements / questions on ‘character’, ‘setting’ and the ‘plot / storyline’.

  1. Choose a character and explain what your opinion of them is.
  2. What do you think a particular setting has been chosen? (Pick one setting and explain your opinion) Eg – “I think a forest has been chosen as the setting for the dramatic build up because a forest can be dark and scary and this is how the character id supposed to feel.”
  3. Choose a particular ‘event’ in the story and explain what you think of this event.
  4. What do you think of how the story ends?

2. Meyers / Tolkien

With another person on your table (form Meyers or Tolkien) discuss your answers / opinions for the above 4 questions.

After you have shared your work, answer:

  1. Did you share the same opinion as your partner?
  2. Did you agree with their opinion? Why / Why not?
  3. Whose opinion was more convincing / better explained and why?

1. Choose 2 characters and describe their physical characteristics. In a ‘T’ chart. (2 columns) Eg – what do they look like? (hair colour, eye colour, shape of their face)what do they sound like? What do they wear?

2. What does their physical characteristics ‘say’ about them. Write at least 2 sentences describing your opinion. Eg – The step mother is described as having a long nose, I think this is to make her appear more like a witch.
