Welcome to the Spring 2017 newsletter.

FACEBOOK: Osbournby Parish Council now has a Facebook page. For the latest news, events and updates please go to Facebook Osbournby Parish Council.

THE DEFIBRILLATOR: The good news – sufficient funds were raised for the Defibrillator to be installed at the village hall. It was officially launched on 8th April when approximately 15 people attended the village hall to learn how to work the defibrillator, should it be required. It is now registered with East Midlands Ambulance Service. Hopefully it will never be needed, but is there if required.

BEST KEPT VILLAGE: The Parish Council has once again entered the village into the Best Kept Village competition. Judging will commence at the end of May and, if we get through, will continue throughout the summer. The last time we entered, in 2014, we got through to the second round so hopefully we can do better this time. Please help by keeping front gardens tidy. The Parish Council will be looking at what they can do to tidy up the village too and anybody willing to help in tidying up the village please email or contact one of the councillors above. Good luck to us all!!

PLANNING APPROVAL: Planning approval has been given for 16 homes on the land at The Drove. We do not know yet when work will start on the building work.

CHANGE OF USE OF PHONE BOX: The Parish Council are hoping to change the use of the phone box in the village square to a lending book/dvd library. Hopefully this will be completed shortly and more information will be sent once it is up and working.

DIGITAL HUB: The Parish Council is still hopeful that a Digital Hub can be set up in the village hall. This will consist of a computer available for residents to use in order that those residents without access to a computer will be able to complete forms on line. There will be help available to those unsure on how to use a computer – more information to follow later.

FOOD BANK: There is a box in the church porch for collection for the food bank should anybody wish to donate any non perishable goods.

SPEEDING IN THE VILLAGE: It has been brought to the attention of the Parish Council that many people are speeding down The Drove and along West Street. The no limit speed does not start until motorists are out of the village and we ask people to please slow down. There are children playing and dog walkers using both these roads and safety is our No. 1 priority.

DOG POO: We are very pleased to say that we have not had so many reports of unwelcome dog poo in the village, but that is not to say that sometimes owners do “forget” to pick up their dog mess. Please remember to do this. There are 3 dog bins in the village, West Street, North Street and The Drove.

PARKING ON GRASS VERGES: Can we please ask that residents do not park their cars on the grass verges.

VILLAGE SKIP: The Parish Council once again supplied a skip in the village square in November last year. This was again successful and it is intended to

BONFIRES: Every summer we receive complaints from residents about bonfires. Although no byelaws exist regarding the times that bonfires can be lit, as a matter of courtesy to all residents, it would be appreciated if fires could be lit after 6 p.m. and if it is a particularly windy day, please wait until the weather changes.

YARD SALE: Following the success of the Yard Sale held in June last year, the second event will take place on 3rd June. If you don’t want to hold a sale in your front garden, table tops will be available in the village hall. Refreshments will also be available in the village hall. More information available from Sonia 455061, Jane 455344 or Ray 455074.
