Tai Fest, our annual tenant funday, was another record breaking event. More than 700 people attended the family day out.The tickets, transport and most activities are free.
To qualify for a free lunch and prize draw … tenants had to speak to a member of staff at three of our fourspecial Star Stalls.
We created a unique opportunity to reach and influence a large number of tenants on a one-to-one basis – people we would otherwise have had no contact with throughout the rest of the year.
The themes of the Star Stalls were:
- Welfare reform
- Saving energy and cutting fuel bills/debt
- Tenant involvement
- Your Neighbourhood, Your Choice – local environmental improvements.
One had a giant Connect 4, which was very popular … the counters, covered in messages about welfare reform as well as money saving tips.
- Each stall was visited by more than 400 tenants
- Afterwards - 5 people telephoned the Your Benefits are Changing helpline.
- 61 appointments for energy advice/the Warm Home Discount scheme.
- 90 wanted to be more involved with us.
- 21 signed up as neighbourhood “environmental champions”.
As a consequence:
- We reached more people during one event than at any other throughout the year.
- The Energy Advice stall, in conjunction with SWALEC - had the most “stamped” visitors, 490 people – meaning they are now more aware of how to get advice/save money on their fuel bills/help with arrears.
- At least 500 know more about benefit changes – 430 had cards stamped and the stall had a further 70 recorded visitors (who did not get their cards stamped).
- Your Neighbourhood, Your Choice … We asked: “What is the single most important thing in your community?” 159 (37%)said improved play and recreational areas – closely mirroring other feedback. We are now confident it is a key priority.
