Biblical Allusions

The Bible was one of the first mass-produced books during the Middle Ages. Below is a list of just a few of the many Biblical allusions that still are referenced in the music and literature today.

You have been assigned an allusion randomly. Your job is to

·  research the allusion (find more references than just the Bible)

·  write a two paragraphs explaining the original story and how the story or name connects to our world today.

·  share this information with this class as we discuss. Your written work will be shared with the class and be used as a reference. (optional)-feel free to add a visual of the story and/or a visual of how it connects to our world today.

·  This website offers every translation of the Bible. Please use the King James Version as your primary source for its poetic value. https://www.biblegateway.com/

"No person in the modern world can be considered educated without a basic knowledge of all the great religions of the world -- Islam, Confucianism, Taoism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, and Christianity. But our knowledge of Judaism and Christianity needs to be more detailed than that of other great religions, if only because of the historical accident that has embedded the Bible in our thought and language. “–E.D. Hirsch, The Dictionary of Cultural Literacy
