****No Matter what project you choose, each person is responsible for individual research and documentation (2-3 notebook pages)

What to hand in and due DATES:

  • 2-3 pages of notes: DUE TUESDAY DEC. 8th
  • 3-5 MLA documented resources:DUE TUESDAY DEC. 8th
  • The final product/ project: DUE MONDAY DEC 14th

and must be ready to present to the class!

What defines a “page” of handwritten notes?

  • Front and back of notebook paper.
  • Not too many skipped lines in between notes.
  • Remember, you want more than enough notes to pick and choose for your project.
  • Better to have too many facts, than too few.
  • Each person is responsible for their own research. NO COPYING; this portion of project is NOT done in partners!
  • Research must be HANDWRITTEN
  • MLA work sited can be typed: cut and paste from son of citation machine; or easy-bib.com

Choice 1: Astronomy Historical Timeline (1-2people)

Here’s an opportunity to gather and display a showcase of people and inventions that influenced the development of astronomy from a certain time period of no more than 100 years; with at least 10 important dates or events within that time period.

You will create a timeline. It can be created on Poster board or in Prezi Presentation.

Important astronomical events

Inventions of Astronomical tools throughout history

Race to space /space exploration

Choice 2: Video Production (1-3 people)

Ideas:

Music video (add music / dance/ song to explain your topic/ use movie maker)

Video simulation EX: or equivalent type of program

Instructional video (create a short informational video/ use movie maker)

Topics for your video: May use more than one topic to help achieve time requirement.

  • Model and illustrate how the tilted earth rotates and revolves. How does this impact us on Earth?
  • Demonstrate and predict the sequence of event sin the lunar cycle
  • Relate the position of the Moon and Sun to their effect on ocean tides.
  • What is the life cycle of a star? (How does the mass of star determine the star’s life?)
  • Model and describe how light years are used to measure distances and sizes in the universe.
  • Describe the Universe, use a model to illustrate components (parts of) the universe such as nebulae, stars, galaxies, planets, etc.
  • Explore how different wavelengths for the electromagnetic spectrum such as light and radio waves are used to gain information about distances and properties of components of the universe.
  • What size star is the Sun, how does it compare to other stars? Characteristics?
  • Discuss how scientific data helps to develop theories of the origin of the Universe.
  • Other? ( dark matter/ black holes????)

Choice 3: An Astronomy Scrapbook (1-2 people)

All information must come from research. Give factual, educational information!! Scrapbook MUST be BOUND!

This is your opportunity for you to give us a scrapbook of a trip you took through DEEP SPACE in which you illustrate (PICTURES), WRITE (JOURNALS), and collect SOUVENIRS about your encounters while traveling through space. Imagine that time is not an issue and appropriate spacecraft is available to assist in your travel.

Choice 4: Create a FACEBOOK PAGE: (hard copy, not a digital project) (1-2 people)

Design MUST be on a tri-fold foam board and include all faucets of a FB page such as a “about” page, cover photo, profile photo, albums, Likes, Friends, posts…..etc….
