You Can’t Do This to Me

By: Ali

A/N: This is a slightly sad fic about how Bulma feels when Vegeta kills himself to save his family from Buu…

Everyone was shocked. Vegeta was dead. He killed himself, no, actually sacrificed himself to save his family…No one ever knew that the Proud Saiyan Prince had a soft side. His family must have been it.

No one spoke for quite a while. They just looked. Looked at the spot where they had last seen Vegeta alive. Living, breathing, ALIVE. No one knew what to do, after seeing a fellow companion die in battle, or sacrifice himself, it’s hard to find words.

Bulma immediately knew something was wrong. “Vegeta…” she breathed. How could you? I-I-I still can’t believe it. All those people. I thoughtyou had changed for the better, she thought. “How could he?” she said. It was the first thing anyone heard her say since he had come and gone.

“How could he what?” Chi-chi asked curiously. Everyone’s attention was now on Bulma and Chi-chi as they spoke.

“He promised m-me…on the day the androids came…that he would never leave me again…and…that he would…protect me as long as he lived, and if I died before him, he would protect Trunks and…my memory.” Bulma said, tears openly coursing down he face, since her proud Prince was not there to see her cry.

“He said that to you?” Chi-chi said, obviously not thinking that Vegeta was the kind of person to say that to anyone, much less Bulma. I guess you learn something new everyday, she thought, although she couldn’t say it with Bulma around.

“Yes.” Bulma whispered, but Chi-chi heard. “He broke his one promise that he ever made me.” she sobbed. “And now…he’s gone…” her voice trailed off.

“What?????????” said Chi-chi. “Gone? What do you mean???”

“He’s dead.” Bulma said flatly, feeling empty inside for the first time since he returned to her when the androids arrived.

“What? How can you tell something like that, Bulma?” Yamcha cut in. “How do you know for sure?” he asked, rather loudly.

“When you love someone,” she said, “you can feel them, no matter where in the world, or universe, they are. That, Yamcha, is true love. Something special me and Vegeta have. I know he loves me, I can see it in his eyes. He told me he can’t say it, but I know that one day, he will.” He will, he will, he will, she repeated over to herself.

“But…how do you know he’s dead? Who killed him?” Yamcha asked, obviously not as upset over the loss as Bulma and Chi-chi.

“I don’t know. It’s just a connection we have,” she smiled through her tears, “and he’s with me now, he’s even talking to me.” All her friends looked at her as though she was crazy.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, Bulma said something she did not mean to say, as a matter of fact, they were not even her words, actually, she was talking in Vegeta's voice.

“Ah, my little one, you have noticed, hmmm?

I knew you would, you always were smart.

Please. I beg of you, yes, I beg, remember, I am with you always.

When you feel a warm breeze on your cheek, or it ruffles you hair,

Remember, I am the breeze.

When the stars shine down on you brightly,

Remember, it is only me,

Looking down on you.

When the morning sun shines on your face,

Telling you to get up and face the day,

Remember, it’s only me,

Remember me, forget me nought,

I am with you always,

My treasure, my heart, my soul.”
