Competition Information

In the U10 and U12 events the DE fights are to 10 hits in 3 bouts of 2 minutes with a gap of 1 minute. All pool fights will be to five hits and last 3 minutes.

Masks must have a back strap and be in good condition. Plastrons must be worn and gloves must overlap the sleeve. Any fencer using a size five blade will be expected to be wearing an 800 Newton plastron and also 350 Newton breeches. Note that for the BYC finals qualifiers will be expected to have full kit. All sabre fencers are expected to have a glove that conforms to the new FIE specification of 800 Newton.

British Fencing

All entrants are required to be members of the British Fencing Association. Entrants will be able to join on the day, however it helps the organisers if you have joined in advance this can be done online at www.britishfencing.com. Under 13 (Musketeer Membership) cost £25, 13 - 18 year olds (Junior Membership) cost £30, further details about British Fencing can be found at www.britishfencing.com.

Qualification + Finals

The top FOUR fencers in each of the events will qualify to enter the National finals which will take place at The English Institute of Sport, Sheffield on the May Bank holiday weekend. Details of when the finals are to be held are outlined below. In the event that there are more than 16 fencers in an event then the top four plus one fencer for every four fencers will qualify for the nationals. We will aim to publish the number of people qualifying for each event on the day.

May 2nd, 3rd and 4th for the British Youth Championship finals - EIS Sheffield. A schedule of events for each day will be published closer to the time on the British Fencing website. Entries are submitted by Yorkshire Fencing after the qualifiers has been run.

Please let Yorkshire Fencing know if you are not planning on attending the finals, as we may be able to re-allocate the qualification slot.

Byes

Fencers who made the last 8 in any of last years events will have a bye this year, in order to enter you will need to submit your entry direct to British Fencing, they should have sent you an email telling you how to claim your bye.

Under 10 Events

The under 10 events are not linked to the BYC national finals. Fencers who wish to enter the national under 10 finals can do so via British Fencing. To enter the national events you must be born in 2005, 2006 or 2007.

Hub Training Day

There will be a training day held on the 26th of April this event is open to all fencers. The aim will be to provide qualifying fencers with a good opportunity to prepare for the BYC finals on the following weekend. The event will also be held at Park Lane Learning Trust, Park Lane, Exley, Halifax, HX3 9LG.
