YORK & AINSTY SOUTH (HUNT) BRANCH OF THE PONY CLUB

June 2016

Dear Members,

What an amazing time our Show Jumpers have had recently, with more still to come! At the Area Open, Intermediate and Junior Competition at Bishop Burton, the Junior team of Ellie McNeil, Abby Barker, Lauren Hall and Eve Payne were in a third round jump off for six teams who finished on a zero score. They all went clear to finish by only 6 seconds in third place. The Intermediate team of Charlotte Bumby, Joe Nice, Verity Rochelle and Amelia Brown were also in a third round jump off for 4 teams and also finished in third place, just missing out on a Championship qualification. To end the day, Serena Leighton was in a combined Branch team in the Open, who won both the competition and the turnout and so qualified for the Pony Club Championships. The following weekend a team of Charlotte and Serena Leighton, Amelia Brown and Holly Clayden competed in the Pony club Show Jumping at Bramham Horse Trials, where they also were in a jump off for five teams and finished a brilliant fourth. Well done to you all, and thank you to all those members and parents who supported them all. To complete this, a past member, Nicola Rooke, was competing in the CIC*** Eventing and, after a tremendous double clear, finished 19th, out of a field of very well known names. We have had members competing at the Scunthorpe Pony Club ODE, the Badsworth ODE, the Schools Championship at Hickstead and various other events round and about. Well done to you all! However, Pony Club is not just about competing and I hope that those of you who don’t want to compete, will still enjoy everything else the Branch can offer.

Thank you to all those of you who have already signed up for Camp at Askham Bryan. Anyone else wishing to come, please can you send off your form and payment straight away. If anyone would like to come to Camp for just a night or two, we can accommodate you. Please talk to Gill to sort this out. The second letter about Camp will follow in early July. Thank you also to those of you who have sent off your form and deposit forMini-Camp,to be held on 9/10/11 August at Thornton Lodge and Rosethorpe Park.Anyone else wishing to attend, please can you sendyou’re your form by the end of June. It does make it very difficult if we don’t have confirmed numbers for organising instructors etc. if we don’t have your names in in time. If you have any queries at all about this, please speak to Gill (01904 768801/07809273976).

The Branch is again running the Area 3 Novice Show Jumping Competition at Port Royal at Holme on Spalding Moor. This requires a lot of helpers – stewards, pole pickers, and general help on the day. If you can spare any time at all, even if only for a couple of hours, it would be very gratefully received! A good event to watch for show jumpers of the future! If anyone would like to sponsor this, we would be pleased to hear from you and in return can advertise either in the programme or by a banner on site for even the smallest amounts.

Welcome to new members – Harriet and Emily Hope. We hope you will enjoy belonging to YAS!

Well done to those of you who took the Mucking Outmini achievement badge – Amelia and Oliver Lawery, Lara and Gabby Simpson, Tiggy Gulliver, Lily Hay, Phoebe Smith, Sophie Gittus, Holly Middlemiss and Olivia Piercey, Harry Davies-Savage. Also to Megan Stephenson, Lauren Hall, Holly Burn, Leah and Kayleigh Cooper who took the Human First Aid Achievement Badgeand to Megan, Holly, Leah, Kayleigh, Emily Hope, Jess and Abby Barker who took the Hoof Care Achievement Badge and to Megan, Holly, Leah, Kayleigh, Emily, Jess, Abby and Lauren who took the Yard and Field Safety and Security Awareness Achievement Badges.

N.B. All those taking part in any Pony Club competitions, if you need to wear spursplease remember to have your spurs permission signed on your membership card if you do not hold your B Test. You will need a medical armband for any Pony Club cross country competitions (available from Marie) and please remember to have your hat tagged with a white tag, no fixed peaks for cross country 0.80m high or over, hairnets for all hair longer than collar length,no jewellery including all ear studs, stirrup irons not too tight on the foot and general tack stitching in good condition. Body protectors are only compulsory for cross country and racing, although recommended for other disciplines. They should fit correctly, be comfortable and must not restrict movement. If a rider chooses to wear an air jacket in cross country or racing, it must only be used in addition to a normal body protector. In the event of a fall, it must be fully deflated or removed before continuing, with the conventional body protector continuing to give protection. Air jackets must not be worn under a jacket and number bibs should be fitted loosely. Air jackets are discouraged for group rides due to the sudden noise when they inflate.
