Spring REVIEW

Firstly a warm welcome to all of our new members Carrie Abram (9), Josh Scurrah (13), Gretel Wood (8) and Ellen Gill (13)

For those who enjoy statistics we now have 99 members; 55 juniors and 44 seniors with 11 boys

Our Mounted Games Study Day was a success once again, thank you to everyone who helped organise and execute the morning especially our members and their ponies who all performed brilliantly as usual. Our first Newcomers Rally in the afternoon was successful and 10 new members of all ages came mounted and 4 dismounted. New members and parents were able to chat to committee members and instructors as well as experience a rally.

In February we held a rally at YRC which was attended by 41 members. We hosted the first round of the Area 3 PC quiz at Bishop Monkton, but sadly our team of Sophie Scott, Lucy Pettet, Lucy Vesty and Abi Paxton did not qualify for the finals. Thanks to everyone who helped run the evening.
In March Kath Barley hosted and ran two showing rallies including demonstrations on how to do a show and perform a dressage test. These were thoroughly enjoyed by all the members of various ages who attended.
Many thanks once again to Mr and Mrs Armstrong who hosted our first Tack and Turnout rally of the year at Paddock House at Allerton Park on 31st March. No less than 31 juniors braved the weather which was more like winter than spring. The senior members postponed a couple of days when spring had actually arrived and fortunately the weather continued for our 2nd Tack and Turnout rally on 7th April at Paddock House where 38 members in total attended.

The Egg Hunt was held on Good Friday at Strawberry Farm by kind permission of Mr and Mrs Holmes. 24 members and several guests attended 31 in total and all had a lovely time riding or walking the 6 mile route.

On Weds 8th April we held our first Competition training rally at YRC which was a great success. Places were limited, 8 members attended mounted and 3 on foot for the morning session. The day included a lecture and video on cross country riding, and show jumping training with Sophie Minikin and cross country training with Alison Pocklington.

Our Area PPC Mounted Games final is at Wetherby racecourse on Saturday 10th May, please come along and support our junior and senior teams if you are able. The seniors start at around 10.30am and juniors at 2pm.

Please note the Bramham Horse trials discounted ticket offer for PC members (link on members news page). Applications should be received by Bramham HT’s office by May 13th. We hope to have a Show Jumping team to compete in the Inter branch competition of Saturday afternoon in the Top Spec Arena so please go along and support them if you are there.

We now have a Child Protection Officer, Mrs Fiona Franey, whom most of you already know and Fiona joins the Committee.

We look forward to seeing you at rallies and Camp this summer and good luck with your competitions.

Helen Vesty

Mounted Games 2015

We have had a lot of keen interest in this discipline since the start of the New Year. Huge numbers of children came to our sessions at Askham Bryan in February and March. We have been to friendly competitions run by Bramham, Hurworth, Sinnington and Cleveland. Juniors and seniors have done well at each being placed between 3rd and 7th. We also had a super mini team competing at Cleveland.

On 3rd May we have a novice junior and senior team entered at a competition run by Rockwood Harriers. All games reports are on our PPC games tab on our website

Coming up on May 10th is our Area 3 competition at Wetherby racecourse where we compete against teams in our area. The top teams earn a place at the Zone finals in Warwick on Saturday 27th- 28th June at Warwickshire College, Moreton Morrell

This is a fantastic discipline for learning to work in a team, increasing agility, gaining confidence in riding and also self confidence.

For more information or if you would be interested in coming along to training please ring Rachel on 01423 779345 or email rm.spencer@btinternet.

REVISED HAT RULES FROM 2014

European Riding Hat standards are being changed in 2015 and after the 31 December 2015 the Pony Club will not be allowing members to wear hats only marked with (BS) EN1384. We would suggest that if you are going to buy a new hat you ensure it is also marked with one of the other standards allowed under The Pony Club rules so that members can continue to use it in 2016. Hats which only meet the standard (BS)EN1384 can be used in 2015 but will not be retagged with one of the new white hat tags during 2015, they will continue to be tagged with a purple hat tag to allow them to be used during 2015..

It is mandatory for all Members to wear a protective helmet bearing the CE mark and manufactured to one of the

minimum standards listed below; the CE symbol on its own is not sufficient to ensure consistent standard of

manufacture:

British - PAS 015:1998 or 2011* / BS** EN 1384: 1996, 1997 or 2012

European - EN 1384:1996, 1997 or 2012

Only with the BSI Kitemark

* The PAS 015:1998 or 2011 and the Snell E2001 meet higher impact criteria and therefore give more protection.

** The prefix ‘BS’ on the EN 1384 standard does not mean that the hat has undergone batch testing by the British

Standards Institute – the hat must contain the BSI Kitemark as well.

For cross-country riding (whether it is tests, rallies or training) a jockey skull cap, with no fixed peak, must be worn.

The fit of the hat and the adjustment of the harness are as crucial as the quality. The hat should not move on the head when the head is tipped forward. It is strongly recommended that second hand hats are not purchased.

Hats must be replaced after a severe impact as subsequent protection will be significantly reduced. Hats

deteriorate with age and should be replaced after three to five years depending upon the amount of use.

Hats, must be worn at all times (including at prize-giving)

New hat tags will start to be in use from January 2015 and all hats need to have a new hat tag on them by the 01 January 2016.

The new hat tags will be white, with a purple Pony Club logo. From 01January 2016 PC will no longer accept riders wearing hats with the old purple hat tags.

***PLEASE COULD MEMBERS ENSURE THAT YOUR HAT IS TAGGED by either Barbara Birchall or Jeanne Tasker. If you need to buy a new hat remember to get it tagged as soon as you can.

Full details can be found on PC website – www.pcuk.org
