Facilitator Job Description

Situation/Nature and Scope:

The Job Search Workshop Program offers short-term pre-employment workshops designed for recent immigrants (landed immigrants, convention refugees or live in care-givers). This program assists eligible newcomers to find employment in the shortest time, through the delivery of workshops and individual pre-employment counselling. The program is funded by Citizenship and Immigration Canada.

The Facilitator will deliver workshops; provide assistance with resume/interview preparation, self-assessment, labour market trends, job search correspondence and action plan development.

Responsibilities:

·  Research and compile labour market and job search information relevant to internationally-trained professionals and trades people

·  Market the program to participants and community agencies, LINC and ESL Teacher and Program Coordinators

·  Schedule, prepare, update and facilitate workshops and curriculum according to the goals of the program and clients’ needs utilizing a variety of multimedia tools.

·  Interview and intake applicants, perform needs assessment and client orientation to programs and services

·  Prepare promotional materials, including flyers, brochures, etc. for the purpose of program promotion

·  Comply with and adhere to all program delivery guidelines

·  Provide individual coaching, training and direct support and assistance to JSW participants in the areas of resume writing, interview preparation, job search strategies and other employment/career related topics, according to client’s needs

·  Conduct appropriate and regular follow-up activities with program participants (for three months), document the decision in clients’ file and report them monthly, as per Reporting Guideline

·  Research employment and educational support programs relevant to client needs at area community agencies and schools in order to make appropriate external referrals, and document results in clients’ file

·  Maintain files and documentation (in database and ICAMS) according to internal policies/guidelines and funders’ requirements

·  Submit professional, accurate and detailed monthly reports

Qualifications:

·  Post secondary education preferably in Adult Education, Human Resources, Social Services, Employment/Career Counselling or combination of education and relevant work experience

·  Thorough knowledge of all facets of job search and career development including an understanding of current labour market trends and resources, training programs and employment resource centres

·  Experience in public speaking and developing Power Point presentations

·  Excellent facilitation, organizational and time management skills

·  Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills

·  Strong written and spoken communication skills

·  Ability to solve problem, work independently and as part of a team

·  Demonstrated experience and knowledge working with diverse groups

·  Experience in the delivery of pre employment workshops

·  Experience multi-tasking in a fast paced environment

·  Knowledge of MS Office, Internet/E-mail

·  Knowledge of local resources, programs that assist with employment goals and ability to appropriately refer

Education/Training

·  Post secondary education preferably in Adult Education, Human Resources, Social Services, Employment/Career Counselling or combination of education and relevant work experience

·  Training in labour market/standards, employment issues/resources and immigrant needs

·  Relevant training and/or experience working with volunteers and volunteer networks

·  Experience working with the client group (internationally-educated professionals and trades people, employers, employment-service providers)

·  Experience working with private, public and not-for-profit sectors

External: Potentially, any individual or organization with needs including: direct service, advise, support and/or information related to employment, human resources, labour market, jobs and employers, accreditation/licensing, training/education, and immigration/settlement related issues.

Working Conditions

Normally, may require sitting for long periods, during assessments, setting up appointments, follow-up and counseling sessions. May require standing for long periods during presentations and delivery of workshops. May be required to travel to meet with community partners to promote services and stay abreast of community resources. Excellent concentration and self-management skills are required when interacting with clients and volunteers and when completing forms, reviewing resumes and correspondences.
