Centaur Hike 2018

The route is going to be approx 4.5 miles and will take approx 3.5hrs.

Teams are a minimum of 4 and a maximum of 6 Cubs. 1 team per pack

Each team is required to provide a Warranted Leader or a CRB / DBS cleared helper on the day, who will be required to wear a Hi – Vis vest or Jacket to walk with a different packmarking them on the way. Could you encourage the Cubs to wear Hi Vis as well.

Please make sure that your leader is able to map read.

No dogs will be allowed to walk around the hike with the Cubs.

Every pack will get a start time and then, have 30 mins to plot their 6 grid route and then be sent on their way.

This is a competition and you must only put in teams who are competent with map reading including setting the map, compass bearings and 6 grid referencing.

Each team will have a different leader to GUIDE if needed NOT TRAIN them on the route and will be marking them on these skills and team work.

I will send the route out to the leaders walkingon Friday 23rd in the evening (night before about 8pm)

All Cubs must wear their Groups Scarf and be set for different weather conditions on the day.

Leaders must complete anAN form for the day out please.

Home contact – They is a template for this information, attached and needs to be completed andincluding all adults & Children taking part by the closing date.,

I have arranged for one central emergency home contact for the event, so please give all relevant details to help us in the event of an emergency.

A Health Form for all the Cubs, Leaders & Helpers is attached to this e-mail. These must be completed by all Cubs and Leaders taking part in this event and handed in to me by the closing date.

No Map Required: We will be supplying a photo-copied part of the map for you and the Cubs.

On route the Cubs will have a quiz to do, which points will go towards the final team scores.

Results will come out via e-mail after the 1st, 2nd, 3rd trophy and certificates has been delivered to the packs.

They will be a certificate for each Cub taking part on the day.

Novice teamsIf your pack is unable to take part in the main competition, then I will have room at the end to send a few novice teams round the same route doing the same thing for the Cubs to gain experience for next year. All novice teams will go round with their own leader or leaders.

Per Team: 1 x pencil + sharpener

1 x compass

1 x whistle

1 x small first aid kit

1 x ruler

Individual:

Small rucksack (Cubs will carry this around the Hike)

Waterproofs

Packed Lunch

Water Bottle (full)

Strong shoes or WALKING BOOTS

NO WELLIES (they tend to blister the feet of Cubs at this distance)
