Year X Routes through Education Event at XXXXX School

Dear XXXX

In <enter month> we will be running a “Routes through Education” event at XXXXX School.

The event will take place on<enter date here> alongside a Year 11 post-16 open eveningrun by the sixth form from <enter time here>. It would be fantastic if you could take part.

This event will be aimed at the students (15-16 year olds) and their families. We want to provide up to date information about various routes through education and career paths in the North East and beyond. We know that many families don’t know much about the different types of jobs out there and it is important that children and their parents get the right information as early as possible.

The event is informal and chatty with no formal presentations. What we have found is that people are shy and pretty reluctant to just come up and talk to visitors they don’t know. We have two strategies to try and help, firstly we ask all the exhibitors to bring a short activity, demonstration or piece of equipment related to your job that people can look at or try out. This attracts people over and means that conversations can be started. We also provide each stand with a stamp and people collect stamps from the stands they interact with and can enter a prize draw. If you’re struggling with ideas for an activity, please let me know and I can help.

If you are able to take part, please let me know and I will get back in touch with more information.

There is a bit more information below, if you have any questions, please email me or give me a call on <enter phone number> <provide good times to call if necessary> or email <email address>.

With best wishes

BACKGROUND AND AIMS:

Research has shown that engaging parents with their child’s education helps them to achieve their ambitions. There is a general lack of understanding in young people and their families about the various routes through education and how to get into the careers they want to do. For example which subjects and which courses to take post-16 and post-18.

The main aims of our event are: <enter aims here> however these career events are fairly general and the information provided should be relevant for a wide range of pupils.
