1. Organisation name*Droitwich Rugby Football Club (now a multi-sport Club)
Project information
2. Project nameDRFC – Playing Pitch Surface & Ground Drainage Improvement works
3. Project description
The objective of this project is to undertake essential resurfacing and drainage works to the playing pitches in order to ensure that they remain usable (as identified in the South Worcestershire Playing Pitch Strategy and endorsed by Sports England - copy extract attached).
This will be done by; (1) slit draining the 2nd team pitch & training pitch (2) comprehensively cultivating and regrading and improving the training pitch & (3) shock-waving, seeding, over-seeding, topdressing and fetilising the 1st team pitch and other areas.
These works are set-out in the quotation provided by pitch care and sports drainage specialist, Phil Day Sports (copy attached).
4. Who is the project aimed at?
This project is aimed at all Droitwich residents and all existing members and users of the Club including;- Droitwich senior 1st & 2nd Teams, the junior Under 16’s/colts, the under 15’s, 14’s & 13’s. In addition, those attending the weekly Worcester County Rugby training, England touch Nationals & training, Touch users at all levels, ages and leagues, Westbury Celtic Football Club, Droitwich Archery Society as well as those who partake in the outdoor fitness Boot-camp training and other activities accommodated on site.
5. Proposed start date
March / April 2016 / Proposed end date
Commencing these works by March 2016 would ensure that the works would be completed and playing pitches reinstated in advance of next season, September 2016.
* If you are not a Town or Parish Council, please talk to us before filling out this form.
Project need, community consultation and support
6. Why is this project needed? The project is critical for Droitwich RFC & the wider community because water logging on the training pitch and second team pitches as well as other areas have resulted in the playing surfaces significantly degrading and in turn the enforcement of limitations on the number of hours that they are available to all users. By undertaking the specified works and improving the connection between the surface drainage and existing sub-terranean structural poly-pipe drainage, the Club could increase their future use to meet existing local demand.
If the proposed works are not undertaken, we will eventually reach a point where we will not have sufficient playing pitches to accommodate the thriving 450 mini & junior players that play at Droitwich RFC on a weekly basis.
7. Have you consulted the community about how New Homes Bonus allocations for your area should be spent?
We expect you to inform the community about how much New Homes Bonus is available for your area and to invite their views on how it is spent. You may put forward ideas about how it could be spent, but you also need to invite other suggestions.
We will not consider any proposals for spending years 4 and 5 New Homes Bonus allocations unless there is clear evidence that you have consulted the community on how your New Homes Bonus allocations should be spent.
Yes Please go to Q8.
No Please go to Q9.
8. If yes, please tell us how you consulted people and what the outcomes of the consultation were. For allocations of over £10,000 we expect a greater level of consultation.
Please include evidence, such as articles, posters, survey results, with your proposal form.
We have consulted with the local community via digital media, twitter and the Club’s webpage.
We have canvassed our membership, local users and the wider Droitwich community and attach a petition in support of this project / application.

Project outcomes
13. What difference will this project make to your local area and community? Please also say how it will benefit people living close to any new development that has generated the New Homes Bonus for your areaIt will address part of the need identified for locally accessible playing pitches in the community and extend the number of hours per week that they could be used. These improvements would also assist the Club retaining key under 16’s junior players and establish a local Colts team (as identified in the South Worcestershire Playing Pitch Strategy & Sports England - copy extracts attached).
14. How will you measure the success of the project?
The present condition of the pitches means that they are unable to meet the existing demands of the various users because in order to keep them operational their use has to be limited. The success of the project will be measured in the additional hours per week that members and users from the local community would be able to use the training pitch, 2nd team pitches and other areas for matches, training and events.
