Team

Campus safety and security is a shared responsibility, each one of us must take direct responsibility

Emergency Preparedness Critical Incident Plan

What do you need to begin?

  • Willingness
  • Awareness
  • Preparation
  • Rehearsal

In a critical situation, the trained and untrained have a similar response at first…. But then the training kicks in.

Trained:

  • Startled and fear
  • Feel anxious
  • Recall their training
  • Prepare to respond as trained
  • Committed to action

Untrained:

  • Startled and fear
  • Panic
  • Fall into disbelief

Responses to critical situations include:

  • Notification
  • Evacuation
  • Communication
  • Shelter In Place
  • Tornado Assembly areas

Notification:

Who do I call? 6000 or 911. Call 911 first on Winter Park Campus, then security at 6000.

When do I use a pull station? In case of fire or smoke. Otherwise call 911.

What is that box on the building? Mass notification System (loudspeakers to notify people in the area). The main way people will be contacted through Valencia Alert.

Evacuation:

  • Walk your building. Know it like you own it!
  • It’s important to know the location of exits.
  • Know the location of the EVAC chair should you need to direct trained personnel where to find it.
  • When an evacuation procedure has been ordered:
  • Clear the building
  • Bring everyone away from the building to the designated point
  • Remain in that area until given the all clear notice. Upon being given the all clear, faculty and staff reenter before students.

Communication:

Be sure to be signed into Valencia Alert. This will inform you on and off campus of a critical situation taking place on campus. Keep your cell phone with you one campus, it is the best way to stay informed.

Listen for announcements from mass notifications system

Obey the directives from law enforcement
