Would You Be Kind Enough to Help to Promote Landings ( a Mission of Compassionate Listening

Bishop Peter having endorsed Landings as part of Proclaim 15 and, following from that, our brief overview given at the follow-up meeting (Great Missenden in October)having generated some interest, we are keen to propose a “Come Home for Christmas” campaign in the local area.

We are hoping that you would be kind enough to help to promote Landings(“a mission of compassionate listening” for “resting” Catholics seeking to return to the Church) in your parish this Christmas. This is a time when many otherwise inactive Catholics attend Mass and so presents an excellent opportunity to extend the hand of welcome. Landings in the UK is now headed by Fr. Dominic Robinson SJ from the Mount Street centre in Mayfair. Both he and Sr. DorothyPerrott OSUfrom Wimbledon have both had very good responses after a few words about Landings given at the close of Christmas Masses.

Your enthusiastic support is essential for the success of this project but requires very little effort on your part. All we ask is that you would

a)speak very briefly about Landings after each Christmas Mass,

b)allow a notice to be put in the Christmas newsletters regarding a workshop to be held at St. Teresa’s Beaconsfield in the New Year (date still to be confirmed)

c)Display a poster in the Narthex.

We can supply words, posters and so on as required: these can be used as is, modified to suit or even discarded as you would see fit.

You may well be aware of Landings but, in short, it is a lay-led programme to welcome home inactive Catholics and consists of a short series of meetings in which welcomers and returners share their faith stories in a safe, confidential and non-judgemental environment.
