Worship and Justice Volunteer

Task description

Are you passionate about equipping people to pray for justice and poverty issues?
We want to help the 21st century church to use their worship and prayers to the God of justice to be good news to the world’s poor. Can you help us?
At Christian Aid we have a wealth of prayers, songs and services that we have used during our seventy year history to help the church pray and act for those most in need. We are looking for a volunteer with a good knowledge of the modern church to help us identify which worship materials in our archives can be most inspirational and useful to the church today.
You would be supported to make and keep records of our archive material, to judge what will be useful for Christians today, and to update materials which need revision. You’ll play a key role in digitising printed prayer materials and preparing them to be shared online.
It’s a great opportunity to see a range of theological perspectives on justice and approaches to worship, and to explore prayers written all over the world.

What will I do?

-  Spend time in the Christian Aid archives at ICH, cataloguing prayer and worship materials
-  Judge which materials will be useful for Christians today and update them where necessary.
-  Type up printed materials and prepare them to be shared online

What skills do I need?

-  Familiarity with churches and worship materials
-  Organisation and cataloguing skills
-  Confident using basic functions of Word and Excel
-  Communication skills both written and verbal
-  Able to work independently and as part of a team.
-  Attention to detail

How much time can I give?

This volunteering opportunity is available immediately. It can be done on a one day a week basis or as a two week placement (there is flexibility in the days to complete this task).

What support will I receive?

Individual support and supervision from a named contact within Christian Aid, including one-to-one sessions.
Appropriate induction and training for your volunteering role.
Quarterly volunteer e-newsletter.
Out-of-pocket expenses (for up to £12 a day).

Are there any other requirements?

·  You will need to be in sympathy with Christian Aid’s values and vision.
