World War II Battle Presentation
Assignment
In a group of three or four, research and deliver a multi-media presentation describinga battle or military campaign that involved Canadian forces during World War II.
Presentation Requirements
- Presentation Tool
The presentation must be conducted using a presentation tool such as Power Point, Keynote, Google Docs, etc. The slides must include written and/or visual documents (maps, photos, charts, diagrams, reports, etc.) with captions that identifythe documents. The documents may be bothprimary and secondary sources. The description of the battle on the slides should be brief and concise except for statistics, quotes, journal excerpts, etc.
- Maps
The slide presentation/description must include maps of the battle/campaign that show the various stages of the battle. Use only secondary not primary source maps.
- Video
Include a short video clip(3 minutes maximum) that describes an aspect of the battle.
- Primary Sources Documents/First Hand Accounts
The presentation must include the experience of an individual(s) involved in the battle from primary source documents such as a letter, diary or journal entry, memoir, interview and can be in print, audio or video form. Use Memory Project
Outline/Notes
Prepare and use a point form outline/notesduring the presentation.
Works Consulted/Sources
Provide a list of sources used to obtain the information, documents, video, and first-hand account on the final slide of the presentation tool under the heading works consulted.
Participation
Each member of the group must contribute and participateequallyin the presentation.
Evaluation (Individual and Group)
Students will receive an individual and group mark. Refer to the marking Criteria for the World War II Presentation.
Description of the Battle Outline
- Background
- summarize the previous battle(s) (refer to battle sheet provided)
- maps must be included as part of thedescription
- Objective(s), Planning and Preparation
- describe the objectives to be achieved by the Canadians in the battle
- describe the planning and preparation involved (may not be available)
- maps must be included as part of the description
- Weapons and Technological Devices
- describe the weapons and any other technological devices (sonar, baily bridges, artificial harbours, etc.) used in the battle by the Canadians
- Battle/Video(s)
- describe the battle thoroughly and in detail
- maps must be included as part of the description
- video must be included (3 minutes maximum) representing some aspect of the battle
- all members of the group must present on the battle
- Primary Source Document/First Hand Account
- describe the experience of individual(s) involved in the battle from primary source documentssuch as a letter, diary or journal entry, memoir, interview in print, audio or video
- Outcome and Impact
- describe the outcome of the battle that includes any territorial gains or losses and casualties
- explain the impact of the battle and how it affected the rest of the war in the short term and long term
