World Contraception Day

WCD social media posts

Social media has the potential to play an instrumental role in creating buzz and building momentum in the run up to World Contraception Day(WCD) 2014. To help you conduct a social media campaign around WCD, we have created a content calendar that will act as a guide for potential content that you can post on your own social media channels. For each day in September*, we encourage you allto post WCD-related content on Twitter. We would also recommend that you keep your Facebook pages up to date.

The table overleafsuggests useful hints and tips for ‘tweets’ that you might want to consider posting, including a ‘Tweet of the Day’. The table also includes potential Facebook updates. Please be aware that these are only recommendations so feel free to tailor the contents to your own regional specifications as well as tweet your own ideas. Suggested posts includefacts about contraception, pictures, links to materials on other websitesand a countdown to WCD 2014.

This document also includes suggestions on additional or alternative tweets you might want to post, with a more regional/country-specific focus. We would also encourage you to consider whether there are opportunities in current news/events related to sexual health and contraception which you could leverage to develop new tweets. This will help your tweets remain contemporary andin tune with what’s going on more widely in the world.

We encourage everyone to actively re-tweet and ‘like’ one another’s posts as this will be integral in boosting the impact made online. To help build and maintain momentum, we encourage you to actively engage with your followers and other interested parties e.g. by responding to their posts, engaging in conversations, retweeting interesting comments and directing some posts at people/stakeholders who may find it interesting. Ideally, you should aim to post 2-3 tweets a day. These can be re-tweets, original tweets and/or re-posts of previous posts at a different time of day.

Below is a list of our partners and other family planning organizations that you may want to consider interacting with on Twitter:
