PROJECT 2

“OTHERNESS” IN THE ART OF DANCING

The Greek dancing company “PROSXIMA” forming, a European project, with starting point some “divine forces” that we meet in the legends of Ancient Greece, such as Gorgo (Mermaid Medusa) also Artemis (Diana) and Dionysus, raising the subject of “otherness” and it’s various transformations. The “otherness” concerns the experience in connection with the “other”. The above archetypes express the general agony which is caused by the strange and disturbing experiences of transfer from civilization to ferocity, from childhood to maturity, from life to death. Similar legends we meet in the people of Baltic, in Celts, in Slaves, in Germans, in Hungarians, in Finlands etc.

This study of “otherness” could be a very complicated issue in a dancing piece but on the other hand it can be very substantive when you start reading the first text. First text in dancing is the spontaneous body language that comes before techniques and elaborations. The language that is dictated from someone’s state, the psychological conditions, the way of living and also the relations between human beings . The aim of this program, in a time when people in Europe every day are living together with large numbers of people from other nations with different languages, religions andcultures, is to find in dance through cultural heritage, the element that will make the communication easier and embody it in the art of dancing, raising its communicational role. Examining the meaning of “otherness” through mythology of different countries, we found our bearings and we will try to create a project that will hold: a) seminars-workshops that will face the “otherness” in dancing techniques b) work with European Art Schools to present the “otherness” through Fine Arts Schools using new technology to be part of scenographic background of the performances also to work as a individual exhibition c) co-operate with European Universities (dept., of Philosophy and Philology) to organize lectures based on comparative studies of myths from different countries on “otherness” d) produce a trilogy in one dancing performances created by different choreographers and performed by dancers from different countries and finally e) produce of a cd-rom with all the contest of the project, useful tool to European dancing schools.

We welcome ideas on this project from dancing companies, lighting firms, music groups, Fine Arts Schools and Universities

PROJECT 3

THEATRE: A LINK BETWEEN THE UPPER AND THE LOWER WORLD

An approach through ARISTOPHANES heroes and his dialogues between the living and the dead, presented by the Greek Theatrical company: “PROVA”. The aim of this program is a ritualistic approach to European theatre, where the boarders between the stage and the stalls, the actors and the audience are done away with, so that everyone becomes part of the festival of life and death.

Following the routes of our cultural heritage a new play will be written based on Aristophanes heroes, sewing together parts of the plays: "Lysistrata", "Aharnes", "Nefeles"(Clouds), "Heppeas" (Horsemen), "Vatrahee"(Frogs), "Ornithes"(Birds), "Ploutos"(Wealth), "Sfikes"(Wasps), and “Irene"(Peace), which will be performed in European cities. Seminars/ workshops and a 2 days conference will be included in this program.

We welcomeyour ideas of participation from theatrical, musical, scenographic companies and lighting designers, that they have experienced: “life and death” situations in plays.

PROJECT 4

GASTRONOMY THROUGH THEATRE

The theatrical Company "XYTIRIO THEATRE" presents a program that is enrolled in the cultural inheritance of Europe, and is connected with the gastronomy in theatre through the ages until today. The "Homerians" knew the kettle and the lamb. The Romanians learned from Greeks, and France revives the tradition through glutton Louis IV and rest of the European countries follow. Through this program we try to rely on a modern theatrical play with 2 dominant elements a) cooking as taste, aesthetics, philosophy and art and b) cooking and love, the love of the flesh. Two universal subjects where people with different orientations can communicate with each other.
Taking the opportunity from the modern Greek author Andreas Staikos' play "DANGEROUS COOKING" which is influenced by Morivo and Laklo, an erotic game in which the erotic great hunger identifies with gastronomy, where cooking and recipes substitute all the traditional procedure of the erotic strategic, the theatrical company '"XYTIRIO THEATRE" tries with the contribution of other European colleagues, to present with the shape of "performance" and "happening" various manifestations all about the taste in all it's forms.
The countries which will participate in the program we would like to have and historical continuation of cooking (Greece-Italy-France, etc). The program will include performances from "DANGEROUS COOKING" in today's era and with visualized material from past periods with the help of modern technology, cooking tests, and conjectural edible sculptures' tests (such as sculptures from potatoes, sea-urchins) 2 days symposium philosophical-feeding-cooking and every day's kitchen from each country which participates in the program, after the end of the performance in the surrounding area of the theatre.
We welcome European theatrical companies that they have play or experience similar plays on stage to offer their ideas for the success of this project also schools of food, ECOLE HOTELIER etc.,

PROJECT 5

BRIDGING CITIES IN EUROPE

One of the practices of Literature is the dérive [literally «drifting»] in the unknown, unfamiliar or just not yet discovered Cities. Supposing that writers’ subjective eye-witnessing are as infinite as the readers and taking into consideration the numbers confirming the readers’ pleasure in travelling through literature, we may strongly argue that Literature draws up an alternative cities’ map. Undoubtedly this involves the writers’ playful-constructive behaviour and the readers’ awareness in tasting a blend of real and imagined shape of the cities and their citizens. The opportunity of practicing a dérive while remaining on a sofa is a Bridge. To be specific, this is only one bridge. And if we really want to form a project called Bridging Cities of Europe we have to add the bridges that Performance, Dance, Painting, Photography, Music and Architecture are constructing between and on behalf of the cities by practicing dérives in unfamiliar attitudes and different lifestyles, in colours and materials reflecting the terrain and the encounters, in modern techniques of construction and in sounds. We are planning to organise road works in the net, videos, happenings and playful events and thus, without forgetting the old and classic «maps», we will end up with α contemporary cities’ map in form of a cd-rom.

Our schedule will contain a) The real shape of the city: With the motto “We are the people, this is our city”, will offer to the citizens of the four European Cities, the chance to present their city to all four corners of the world.People who live in the cities are the cities’ culture . People of any age with access to Internet they will walk in their own city anywhere they like and they will put down a small text up to 200 words or will send drawings or photos b) Blending of the real & Imagined shape of the city: We collect from each country a novel which says about another European city for exaple in Greece we already collect the priced book “ A letter to Dublin” by author Vicky Theodoropoulou and a team of directors-operators based on this book will travel to Ireland and will film a one camera documentary up to 15’ with narration in Greek, extracted from the book’s text. Same has to be done and with the “other” 2-3 cities. A Spanish book referring to Greece, and a team of Spanishs will travel to Greece….or A Estonian’s book for Spain, an Estonians will travel to Spain….Or an Irish book for Spain or other country and so on. c) exhibitions will be held in all cities involved with selective local “happenings” and finally a cd-rom will be producted.

All European cities are welcome to be part of this project with authors, artists for happenings, directors, film producers etc.,
