Review:

  • Workspace, including the 3 main windows
  • Specifying in/out points (Marks)
  • Adjusting image sizes
  • Changing durations of objects on the timeline
  • Editing an existing project

Objectives:

  • Adding clips other than at the end
  • Adding video transitions
  • Start Premiere
  • Open CatsMovieV3 project, or the last one you saved (November 18, maybe?)
  • Add two more images; resize using Effects Control
  • Delete existing sound on Audio track, and then add the short clip we created in last module. If necessary, clear markers, create two new Cat Scratch fever markers (I and O) (00:02:26:17 and 03:26:17) ..non drop frame format (used : )

IMPORTANT: Make sure all your assets are in a single folder..ours are

Deleting Clips from the Timeline: Ripple Delete

  • Delete a clip (not the last one) by trying the following:
  • Select it
  • Right-click it
  • Choose Clear (or Del)
  • Leaves a gap

One way to fix:

  • Right-click in the gap
  • Choose Ripple Delete
  • Pulls everything back to the left

Or

  • Directly select the clip you want to delete, then Right-clickon the NAME of the clip and choose Ripple Delete

Ctrl-Z

Adding clips other than at the end

Method # 1:Control-Drag to desired location. Be careful where you drop the clip, it CAN get inserted right in the middle of an existing clip, instead of at the end of one

Practice: Add a clip between clips 2 and 3

  • Select the clip you want to add in the Project window
  • Ctrl-dragit to the desired location
  • Notice shape of the cursor

As you drag, watch the Program window, which shows the effect of dropping the clip at the current location…want to see two different frames:

Breaks the audio track!

  • Ctrl-Z

To fix:Lock the audio track

  • As explained in last lecture, Find and click theToggle Track Lock icon….pad lock. Double check

  • Save as CatsProjectV4

Video Transitions

Video Transitions (between clips)…can also apply between stills

Video Effects (Apply to the clips themselves…we won’t use)

  • Click the Effectstab

Video Transitions

  • We apply thembetweenadjacent clips (video or photos)…
  • Open the Video Transitions menu:

Video Transitions:Details

  • Procedure:
  • Select the transition you want from the Video Transitionsmenu
  • Decide on the two clips that will be transitioned
  • Drag the desired transition over the place where the two clips meet
  • Example:
  • Choose Video Transitions>Page Peel>Page Peel
  • Drag the Page Peel Video Transition icon between any two clips
  • The shape of the symbol indicates the peel is between two frames
  • Try Page turnon two other clips

Dissolves:

  • Add a dip to black transition somewhere. Use between scenes in a movie
  • Add a Crossdissolve effect , also used in movies
  • Try 3D Motion>Cube Spin

Changing Transition Durations

  • Duration defaults to 1 second
  • To change: One Method
  • Double click the transition on the time line
  • Change the Durationvalue in the window that opens…enter directly or drag the yellow numbers;

  • Make it two seconds

To delete a transition:

  • Select the transition
  • Right click on it, choose Clear:
  • Use the Programwindow and move the playback head to play the movie
  • Save as CatsMoviev4

Rendering and Playing movies

  • Use Space Baror
  • Use Enter key
  • Enter does a real render (creation) of the movie,
  • Space bar kind of fakes it
  • Look for a green line at the top of the timeline: That indicates the movie is “rendered” (created)
  • Render your movie (Enter key)

Practice

  • Clear the timeline
  • Add the avi clip, and then about 7-8 jpgs
  • Resize the jpg’ s using Effects Control
  • Add video transitions: select 3 different dissolves, at least one 3D motion
  • Make the transitions last for more than the default
  • Create a new 10-second sound clip (Use either song)
  • Add a jpg inside the timeline (not on the end)
  • Delete a jpg using ripple delete
  • Save as CatsProjectLarge
