The Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) is seeking a Maintenance Lead Technician in Vancouver. This position serves as the Southwest Region Restoration Crew Lead Technician and is responsible for implementation of maintenance and small construction project activities at environmental restoration sites.The Maintenance Lead Technician assists with leading the crew in site preparation, pesticide and fertilizer application, vegetation planting and transplanting, stream restoration and stabilization, fencing, irrigation setup and operation, wildlife and fisheries habitat structure construction as well as erosion control.

This position will perform the following work:

  • Lead crew and schedule work for Maintenance Technician staff performing highways maintenance activities.
  • Implementation of maintenance and small construction project activities at environmental restoration sites.
  • Operate Class A, B, and CCommercial Driver License (CDL) equipment.
  • Safely provide proper traffic control supervision for all work operations and emergency road closures.
  • Ensure safe handling or containment of hazardous substances, hazardous objects, and possible blood borne pathogens.
  • Saferemoval and cleanup of unlawful dwellings, and coordinates efforts through appropriate law enforcement contacts.
  • Removal of brush, trees and other roadway obstructions.
  • Other duties as assigned.

An ideal candidate for this position will have:

  • Two (2) years highway maintenance, roadway construction or related experience.
  • Class ACDL with endorsement N and without air brakes restriction and Medical Examiners certificate.
  • A valid Traffic Control Flagger Card with experience in traffic control.
  • At least two years’ experience performing traffic control on multi-lane, high speed and highways.
  • Ability to perform basic mathematical calculations such as percentages, ratios and conversions.
  • Proficient computer and tablet skills, with the ability to, create reports, use HATS, send and receive emails, track inventories, etc.
  • Ability to move and lift objects weighing in excess of 50 pounds in a safe manner and safely traverse uneven and steep terrain in all weather conditions.
  • Washington State Pesticide Applicator's License.
  • Possession of Plans Reading Certification is preferred.
  • High School diploma or GED.

Note:

This position is covered by a union shop provision. Therefore, as a condition of employment, candidates who are appointed are required to become members of the WFSE, or arrange to pay to that union a fee equivalent to its regular monthly dues. The union shop provision shall be effective on the first day of the month following the employee's initial 30 days in this classification.
