Walks and visits led by two London Blue Badge Guides + introductory slideshow. Programme provisionally includes Clerkenwell, Stepney, Islington, St Pancras to Kings Cross, Hampstead, Docklands on the DLR, Albertopolis, The Queen’s House (Greenwich), and ‘North of Moorgate’

To promote interest in and gain knowledge of London
What is the course for? What is its main purpose? E.g. to provide a brief introduction to the principles of garden design, with a view to applying them in your own garden.

Essential costs/materials
Essential costs: Travel to Central London and possibly to Zone 5. You will be walking/moving and standing over a 2 hour stretch. Warm waterproof clothing and good shoes suitable for walking highly advisable.
Materials - Notebooks, books and maps optional. For recommended reading/reference, please see book list and website above.
Entry Requirements/Level
No previous knowledge required. Learners should be prepared/able to walk and stand for some time.
Level – this course is placed at history level 1: Introductory.
Title of qualification to be gained (if any) / This is a non-accredited course. On 80% attendance learners can request a WEA Certificate of Achievement.

Teaching and learning methods used:
Walks and visits. Tutor exposition ad explanation. Observation. Question and answer. Some handouts will be provided. Learners are encouraged to take notes, although it is not obligatory.
Learning Outcomes
By the end of the course learners will be able to:
1. demonstrate a greater knowledge of London
2. describe the locations visited
3. comment on the historical development of the areas visited and any architectural/artistic features observed
How will you know you are learning?
Questions will be asked during the walks and visits. Learners may write essays if they wish and quizzes may be organised during the course. Your ‘Learner Record’ will ask you to consider how far you feel you have progressed.
