Title / Director of Enterprise Sales
Reporting to / Executive Director of Enterprise
Staff responsibility / The Head of Sales, Marketing and Business Development teams for Enterprise
Location / Trinity Business Centre, Swindon
Purpose of the role: / To provide creative and motivational leadership to the team and ensure excellent sales, marketing and business development services are provided to the whole of Enterprise, which is the trading arm of Bible Society.
Summary of role: / As a visionary leader and experienced sales professional you will build an organisation with an exceptional ability to:
  • Develop and deliver high quality sales, marketing and business development services to the whole of Enterprise.

  • Work in partnership with the Charity and Services arms of Bible Society, to develop an outstanding working partnership.

  • Be a strong guardian and advocate of the Bible Society brand, whilst recognising the individual needs of Christian Resources Exhibition, Christian Research,Bible Society Resources Ltdand Theos.

  • Drive growth across the Enterprise business, ensuring that both missional and financial targets are reached.

Main responsibilities: /
  • Provide vision and strategic direction, and demonstrate a passion for the mission of Bible Society as you deliver outstanding performance for Enterprise.

  • Provide authentic and inspirational leadership for the managers reporting to you and their teams.

  • Demonstrate effectiveness in engaging and meeting the needs of Bible Society’s three audiences of international (global), culture (public), and Church (Christians).

  • Work with your peer directors to support their distinct business goals, ensuring that income targets are effectively met and growth targets are achieved.

  • In line with our Core Plan – its Vision, Values and Strategic Approaches – support the development of a coherent and strategic plan to build Enterprise for the benefit of the whole organisation.

  • In line with the corporate goals, set objectives for your direct reports, ensuring that staff operate within agreed working practices, coaching them when appropriate.

  • Gain alignment and commitment of staff to the vision and direction of Bible Society and our values of Integrity, Interaction, Intelligence and Inspiration

  • Work with other directors to agree appropriate research and to identify market opportunities that will continue Bible Society’s growth and development in future years.

  • Support and add value to the Brand Guardians as they ensure the Bible Society brand is understood by staff and used to its fullest to enhance all that Bible Society does and stands for

  • Work with the Executive Director of Enterprise to shape and develop the Enterprise business model, and communicate its aims within Bible Society.

  • Pay attention to the public representation and reputation of Bible Society and in particular the profile of the Group Chief Executive.

  • Participate fully in the corporate and spiritual life of Bible Society.

  • Undertake other duties as required to fulfil the goals of Bible Society and the Enterprise arm.

Knowledge, skills and experience: /
  • Significant experience in Sales, Marketing and Business Development in a complex commercial environment and ability to demonstrate a good understanding of Christian audiences.

  • Able to demonstrate an understanding of audiences and how to build a strategy that meets their various requirements.

  • A proven ability to recognise and encourage good copy as well as creative design.

  • Some significant experience, and demonstrated success, of building income streams through a sales organisation.

  • Demonstrate a practical understanding of how Bible Society’s work in England and Wales, as well as globally, needs to generate income in order for this innovative and missional work to be possible, let alone sustainable.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of both the charity and the corporate world.

  • Show evidence of strong interpersonal and influencing skills at senior management level.

  • Able to demonstrate a knowledge of and an empathy with the churches and their members in England and Wales.

  • Undertaken some formal or informal theological training, giving a broad understanding of the varied positions taken across denominations and churchmanship.

  • You will be able to coach, encourage and manage very capable and professional managers.

  • An ability to think strategically while paying attention to detail, especially concerning customer deliverables.

  • An ability and willingness to travel nationally as well as overseas when required.

  • A natural tendency to work collaboratively.
  • An ability to think about the desired outcomes rather than being too task focused.

  • A good listener along with the ability to explain complex aims simply and succinctly.

  • A desire to aspire to the highest standards, encouraging staff to develop their own skills and expertise.

  • Self-motivated, with enough personal confidence to be open to continuous learning and development.

  • A commitment to making the Bible heard, along with a passion for seeing societal and personal Christian formation with a faith disposition that’s aligned to the Christian values within Bible Society

  • A valid passport and full driving licence are necessary for this position.
