The purpose of Assignment 2 is to assess the following learning objectives - Students will:

demonstrate an understanding of children's thinking and communication as it is expressed through play (Assignment 1; Professional Standards 1.1, 1.2)

demonstrate an understanding of the role of play as integrative in the curriculum (Assignments 1 and 2; Professional Standards 1.1, 1.2)

document and interpret children's play (Assignment 1)

describe how children's play can be scaffolded and evaluated (Assignment 1; Professional Standards 1.1, 1.2)

plan an integrated, play based early childhood program (Assignment 2; Professional Standards 1.1, 1.2)

demonstrate an understanding of traditional approaches to curriculum in early childhood (Assignments 1 and 2; Professional standards 2.1, 2.2, 2.3)

demonstrate spelling, grammar competence in and appropriate use of language and literacy, including, punctuation and APA referencing. (All assessments)

Steps for proceeding with Assignment 2-

Curriculum design

The purpose of this assignment is to give you the opportunity to discuss the type of curriculum you would provide for young children in a contemporary early childhood context.

You will need to include an explanation of the following curriculum components in the discussion:

  1. framework
  2. perspectives and practices
  3. aspects (minimum of 6)
  4. relationships with stake holders

The discussion of your curriculum will be based on relevant theoretical constructs and your knowledge of young children’s learning and development.

Within the conclusion the following issues are to be discussed:

  1. the constraints and pressures of the curriculum
  2. the freedoms and potentials of the curriculum.
