This is the Font Group found on the Home Tab

font dialogue box pngThis is the mini toolbar that displays automatically when you select text in a document. Changes to the appearance can be made using the mini-toolbar, the Font Group, by right clicking or by launching the Font Dialogue box

Text appearance can be changed using the following methods:

Bold

  1. By clicking the B on the Font Group
  2. Pressing Ctrl + B key
  3. Selecting the text using your right mouse and choosing Font
  4. Launching the Font Group dialogue box

Italic

  1. By clicking the I on the Font Group
  2. Pressing Ctrl + I key
  3. Selecting the text using your right mouse and choosing Font
  4. Launching the Font Group dialogue box

Underline

  1. By clicking the U on the Font Group
  2. Pressing Ctrl + U key
  3. Selecting the text using your right mouse and choosing Font
  4. Launching the Font Group dialogue box

Strikethrough

  1. By clicking the abc on the Font Group
  2. Selecting the text using your right mouse and choosing Font
  3. Launching the Font Group dialogue box

(Subscript) Subscript drops the text down ½ line from the remainder of the text

  1. By clicking the x2 on the Font Group
  2. Pressing the Ctrl + = keys
  3. Selecting the text using your right mouse and choosing Font
  4. Launching the Font Group dialogue box

(Superscript) Superscript raises the text ½ line from the remainder of the text

  1. By clicking the x2 on the Font Group
  2. Pressing the Ctrl + Shift + = keys
  3. Selecting the text using your right mouse and choosing Font
  4. Launching the Font Group dialogue box

Font Effects (found only in Font dialogue box)

Shadow Adds a shadow beneath and to the right of the selected text.

Outline Displays the inner and outer borders of each character.

Emboss Makes the selected text appear to be raised off the page in relief.

Engrave Makes the selected text appear to be imprinted or pressed into the page.

Small caps Formats selected lowercase text as capital letters and reduces their size. Small caps formatting does not affect numbers, punctuation, non-alphabetic characters, or uppercase letters.

All caps Formats lowercase letters as capitals. All caps formatting does not affect numbers, punctuation, non-alphabetic characters, or uppercase letter

Headers, Footers and Page Numbers

Definitions:

Header: Text placed at the top of the document, identifying a specific part of the document (i.e. page number, document title, date, etc.)

Footer: Text placed at the bottom of the document, identifying a specific part of the document (i.e. page number, document title, date, etc.)

Insert a Header or Footer

  1. Click on the Insert Tab (Ribbon)
  2. Click on the Header or Footer option

  1. Type the desired text
  2. Click the Close button on the new ribbon
  3. The process for adding a footer is the same as a header except you choose the footer option.
  4. Unless you set different headers and footers for different sections, the information you insert in any Header or Footer area appears on every page in the document.
  5. You can insert the date/time into a document using the Date & Time button in the Text group on the Insert tab.

Editing Headers and Footers

  1. Position the pointer over the header/footer text at the top of the page and double-click
  2. Add or delete the desired text
  3. Click the Close Header/Footer button
  4. You can enter different text in the First Page Header and First Page Footer areas when the Different first page check box is selected. These options can be found in the Options Group found under Header & Footer Tools, Design tab.

Inserting Quick Parts

Quick Parts are predefined items you can insert including fields, such as for the date or total number of pages in a document; document property information identifying the author and title of a document, building blocks which are customized text that you create, format, and save for future use

  1. Click on the Insert Tab (Ribbon)
  2. Click on the Header or Footer option
  3. Click on the Quick Parts option located on the Insert Group
  4. Select the Quick Part desired
  5. Click the Close button on the new ribbon

Adding Page Numbers

If you want to number the pages of your document you can insert a page number field in the top, bottom, or side margin of each page.

  1. Click the Insert Tab, the Page Number button in the Header & Footer group.

  1. To change the location or formatting of the page numbers, click the Page Number button, point to a page number location, then select a format from the gallery
  2. To remove page numbers from a document click the Page Number button, then click Remove Page Numbers
