UNDERSTANDING GOALS (CONCEPTS):
Students will understand: Students will understand the different goods and services the government provides. Students will understand how the government regulates economic activity. Students will understand how the government uses our tax money for goods and services. / ESSENTIAL QUESTIONS: What are the goods and services the government provides? How does the government regulate economic activity? What are some of the ways the government uses taxes to provide goods and services? What are the different types of taxes we must pay?
VOCABULARY: Estate Tax, Excise tax, income tax, inheritance tax, laisses faire, sales tax
/STUDENT OBJECTIVES (COMPETENCIES/OUTCOMES):
Students will be able to:SWBAT describe three goods and services the government provides. SWBAT describe the ways the government regulates economic activity. SWBAT explain how the government uses taxes to provide goods and services. SWBAT explain the different types of taxes we must pay in our lives.
STAGE II – ASSESSMENT EVIDENCE
PERFORMANCE TASK:Vocabulary will be reviewed and used in current real life situations. A review will be held and a quiz given. Short writing prompts and in class activities will be completed and recorded. Summaries of short current event discussions will be held. Describe usage: Students will engage in current event readings and class discussions on todays most important events. The different types of taxes in our lives will be discussed and students will chart the different types of vocab. A vocab quiz will be given.

MINI LESSON:
-Old vocabulary reviewed
-Short daily current events will be discussed and analyzed. Short writing prompts given on the current events.
-Class activities and short writing prompts as well as class discussions will be held to go along with chapter 19 material relating to the different types of taxes.
-We will do a K-W-L chart will be completed to go along with the different types of taxes
-Chapter 19 readings and two worksheets will be completed. / MATERIALS AND RESOURCES:
