POLICIES, REGULATIONS AND GRADING

SCHOOL POLICY STATES THAT JACKETS, CELL PHONES & MP3 PLAYERS ARE TO BE KEPT IN YOUR HALL LOCKER AT ALL TIMES. DO NOT BRING THESE ITEMS TO CLASS.

ATTENDANCE AND TARDIES:

Current school policy will be followed regarding absences and tardiness.

Students will have the opportunity during various times throughout the semester to make-up days when they have an excused absence from class. These dates will vary from the fitness room, gym, track, pool and health room. The times and dates will be posted in the locker rooms. Make-up sessions will be specific to the class and content material missed. Attend a session which content corresponds to the class activity missed that day. Students will be required to provide their own transportation. If you are absent and have missed a test or other graded class activity it is your responsibility to attend a make-up session to complete that assignment.

ILLNESS AND MEDICAL PROBLEMS:

Complete exclusion from participation in any unit requires a written medical excuse from a licensed physician. The dates noted on the excuse will be followed. Any extension of days will require a new medical excuse.

Students who have a written medical excuse will still be required to dress in gym attire and will be assigned written work for the participation grade.

Students who need inhalers should bring them to class everyday and carry them out into the gym/pool/outdoor fields.

Any student who has a medical condition or limitation should inform their teacher. If the medical condition or limitation warrants adaptive arrangements, a doctor note must be provided.

ZANGLE:

Grades, attendance, tardies, etc will be posted on Zangle. Class weekly schedule and make-up

sessions (dates, times & location) will be posted in the locker rooms and under “class news”.

GYM ATTIRE:

Every student is expected to dress for physical activity everyday.

Proper gym attire consists of:

t-shirt (graphics/wording appropriate for school)

gym shorts

athletic socks

athletic shoes with non-marking soles

sweatshirts/ sweatpants depending on weather (No hoodies due to safety)

TIME ALLOTMENT:

Five minutes after the tardy ball is allowed for dressing and reporting to your assigned floor space. Once attendance recording begins you will be considered tardy to class.

All students are expected to enter and exit through the main entrance into the locker rooms. Only use the emergency exits in a life-threatening situation. Anyone found using these doors otherwise will be disciplined.

Stay in the locker room, behind the designated line until the bell rings to dismiss. Failure to do so will result in disciplinary action.

LOCKER ROOM PROCEDURES:

Every student is expected to be on time into the locker room at the beginning of class.

Reasonable and rational behavior is expected in the locker room, just as in a classroom.

Do not enter or exit the locker room except by the main locker room doorway. Do not leave the designated yellow line area until the bell rings for class to end.

A lock should be provided by each student to insure safe storage of equipment and personal items. WHS P.E. department will provide you with a lock for a $5.00 deposit. Your deposit will be refunded to you when you turn in your assigned lock.

Do not share lockers with another student. Keep you possessions safely locked at all times.

Students are to use long lockers only during their class period. Otherwise, store your items in the small lockers.

Athletes will not be allowed to use the PE locker rooms after school hours.

No one is allowed in the locker rooms during class time.

No food or drink is allowed in the locker rooms, gyms, pool, fitness room or health room. Anyone bringing these items in will be disciplined.

GRADING:

Letter grades will be earned on the following basis:

Tests on related skills and application of skills

Written tests on knowledge of activities includes rules and strategy

Fitness improvement testing

Participation in class

Students earn ten points per day

Students in Adv. P.E. & Wt. Con. will earn 20 points on conditioning day.

Any day a students has an excused absence or school approved field trip, the student is able to go to a make-up PE session after school to regain participation points for that day. Dates and times are posted in the locker rooms and on Student Connect “class news”. Make-up sessions are specific to class activity missed; swim make-up for a swim day, CPR/First Aid, Fitness Room or gym activity. A student may come to a make-up session and bank days for field trips, vacations, etc. Transportation home is the student’s responsibility.

Grade penalizing factors:

absences (excused or unexcused)

not dressing

in-house suspension, ISS(student required to do written assignment while in in-house suspension

and will need to attend a make-up session to receive credit for date suspended)

out-house suspension

lack of effort, unsportsmanlike conduct, safety hazard, misusing equipment, uncooperative attitude

Physical Education classes have final exams. The exam will be specific to your class material.

Not dressing results in consequences:

1st offense, teacher will remind student of dressing policy

2nd offense, call home

4th offense & additional days, referral to office

Student-athletes are required to participate in physical education class everyday or he/she will be ineligible for that day’s practice or game/event.
