Women empOwering Women (WOW) is once again proud to offer our annual scholarship. The exact dollar amount will be dependent upon financial resources, but will be no less than $500.00. Past winners of our scholarship MAY apply. This scholarship assists single mothers to continue their education beyond high school. Some mothers choose courses that lead to a college degree or vocational certificate/degree. While others choose non-traditional careers and training, i.e. massage therapy, nail tech license, cosmetology, and real estate classes, etc. WOW is one of the few organizations that support and award scholarship for non-traditional courses, degrees, and licenses. WOW is proud to help single moms achieve their dreams in the way that best fits their specific struggles as a single mother!

To help us make a good decision about who will get consideration for our scholarship, please carefully read and fill out all of the information below. It will take some time to do this. Try to set aside a block of time—perhaps as much as two hours—when you can sit and complete this form without being disturbed. Incomplete or unreadable applications will automatically disqualify you.

If you are unsure about parts of the form and want help, call our office. We’ll be happy to answer your questions. Please be as neat as possible. Write in pen or complete the form using your computer. If a question doesn’t apply to you, write NA in the space provided.

Eligibility

Only single mothers can receive this scholarship.
Only single mothers working towards their first degree, certificate, or diploma can receive this scholarship.
You must be planning to attend college/university/technical school/non-traditional forms of education OR currently are attending one.
Financial need is important, but not the only thing the committee considers.
The scholarship must be applied to tuition and books.
There are no minimum grade average requirements, but you must include a copy of your transcripts or a note telling us when we can expect to see your transcripts.
If you receive a scholarship, you must complete the followingBEFORE receiving your award.

a)Write a one-two paragraph letterstating,“What this scholarship means to you?” and submit to WOW when you receive your scholarship award. Letters will be included on our website as well in other print media on behalf of WOW.

b)Submit a picture of yourself. If you like, you may also submit one of yourself and your children.

c)Be willing to contribute 5 hours of your time to a WOW project. (This will be outlined in more detail when the scholarship is awarded.

Your application must be postmarked no later than June 15th, 2010.
