PROJECT PACE – INFO SHEET – MAY TO JULY 2011
COMBINED ON-LINE ABA WORKSHOPS AND IN-HOME PARENT COACHING FOR CHILDREN/ADOLESCENTS WITH ASD BETWEEN THE AGES OF 7 – 18 INCLUSIVE

Project PACE is a collaborative project involving the following local agencies:
WHO is this portion of the project for? / This portion of Project PACE is targeting:1. parents/caregivers of children and adolescents with autism that are between the ages of 7 to 18 inclusive.
2. All participants must reside in the Ottawa-Carleton region.
3. All participants must commit to completing at least 20 hours of online training, and attending all scheduled in-home parent coaching sessions (except in the case of an emergency).
SIMILAR SERVICES WILL BE OFFERED IN BOTH ENGLISH AND FRENCH, AND SIMILAR SERVICES WILL ALSO BE OFFERED FOR THE 0-6 AGE GROUP.
WHAT does the project involve? / 1. Online training: Candidates selected for this part of the project will be able to access a three-month on-line subscription to Autism Training Solutions (
Autism Training Solutionsis the online education company dedicated to training professionals and paraprofessionals within the field of autism and related behavioural disabilities. The training consists of interactive videos with online workshops and assessments – and all material presented is based on the principles of applied behaviour analysis (ABA). Topics include (but are not limited to): reinforcement, behaviour reduction, antecedent and consequent intervention, teaching new behaviours, and functions of behaviour.
Participants will be required to complete 20 hours of on-line training (which is available 24 hours a day/ 7 days a week) over a three-month period. Participants must complete at least 10 hours of online training prior to the scheduling of the first home visit (see below). The material can be reviewed multiple times, if necessary. A senior staff member from Spectrum Intervention Group will be able to oversee the training and answer any questions that arise.
2. In-home parent coaching: One target problem from the communication, behaviour, self-care, or social skills domain will be selected as the focus of the coaching. A senior therapist from Spectrum Intervention Group will schedule four visits of 1.5 hours each with familiesover a three-month period. Intervention strategies will be discussed and modelled with parents, and coaching will be provided as parents implement the strategies with their child.
WHAT is the cost of the project? / We are pleased to report that thanks to a generous donation from Autism Speaks that the project is being delivered free of charge to members of our community.
HOW do I apply? / *Interested applicants should complete the PACE – AUTISM SPEAKS – May to July 11 application for children/youth in the 7-18 age range.
*Note: the application can either be completed online (just tab over between the entries) and then printed up, signed and mailed, or printed off and filled in by hand (please print your contact information VERY clearly).

How are participants selected? / All applications received by the deadline and meeting the minimum criteria as outlined on the application form will be put into a draw and TWELVE (12) participant families will be selected to participate in this portion of the project for the 7-18 age range.
