Arts and Photography

Acrylic Painting – Tuesdays, January 5 – February 9, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. at Glasgow Baptist Church. Class is structured for beginner to the advanced student to work at their own pace and explore the vast world of acrylic painting. Instruction is provided on composition, principles of design, color theory, and Class is for ages 13 and above. Supply list provided uponregistration. Lorie Short, Instructor. Cost: $40

Acrylic Painting – Mondays, February 1 to March 7,5:30 - 7:30 p.m.at First Presbyterian Church. Expand your world of acrylic painting. Venture outside your “box” and experience new excitement through your own paintbrush. Or start from the beginning and broaden your range of color and beauty. Class is for ages 13 and above. Youth Art Class – Wednesdays, February 3 – March 9, 9:00 – 11:00 a.m. Location to be announced. Come learn and explore the world of art and find your own voice in artistic expression! Classes will start with basic drawing skill development and design principles that will build into acrylic painting and mixed media using found objects. Individual creativity will be encouraged and is a course goal. Class is for ages 11 – 17. Supply list provided upon registration. Lorie Short, Instructor. Cost: $40

Painting -Just for Kids (Advanced)– Thursdays, February 4 - March 10, 3:30 - 5:30p.m.at First Presbyterian Church. This class will be different from all ourothers. You will be using a palette knife and other tools for most of your painting. You will be adding different mediums to your painting to change consistency and texture. Be prepared for a new adventure in painting that is fun and exciting! Class is for ages 6- 12. Students must have completed Intermediate before enrolling in this class. Patty Hughes, Instructor. Beginning Pastel - Wednesdays, February 3 – March 9, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. Location to be announced

Class content will address building from the background up into the finishing stages of the drawing/painting. Different methods of starting a pastel will be discussed and explored. Class is for ages 13 and above. Lorie Short, Instructor. Cost: $40

Painting - Just for Kids (Level I)Tuesdays, February 16 - March 8, 3:30 - 5:00p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. Want to learn to paint? We have just the thing for you! Beginning painting class teaches you the basics of acrylic painting from mixing your first colors, through your first completed canvas. It’s fun. It’s an adventure into a new world of art. Drawing – Thursdays, March 17 – April 28, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. Location to be announced.This class emphasizes breaking through barriers that keep us from learning to draw well and is adapted for all skill levels. You will learn how not to “get trapped in the line” andhow to draw what you really see rather than what you think you see. We will learn how to develop a3-dimensional viewpoint from the very onset of a drawing using a still life motif.Independent projects are encouraged. Class is for ages 12 and above. Painting Just for Kids – Level II – Thursdays, March 17 – April 14, 3:30 – 5:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church. This class allows the child to create a painting using his/her own topic choice at the appropriate skills level. They will execute previous techniques and learn new ones. Class is for ages 6-12. Fundamentals of Photography – Mondays, March 21, 28 and April 11, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. at Barren County Trojan Academy.Make your pictures look as good as your neighbor or friend’s pictures using your compact, digital zoom, or SLR camera. We will discuss the basic components of a camera, fundamentals of composition, lighting, flash, printing and more. Prerequisites include familiarity with the basic components of your camera and a strong desire to make better pictures. Harold Kelley, Instructor. Cost: $30

Computers and Technology

Beginning Excel – Monday and Wednesdays, January 11, 13, 20, 25, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Barren County High School. In this class you will learn how to use basic Excel formulas, basic menu functions, and learn basic Excel terms and definitions. You will also learn to create Excel spreadsheets, save and name the worksheets, and format data within the spreadsheets. Debbie Russell, Instructor. Cost: $35

Beginning Computers –Tuesdays and Thursdays, January 19, 21, 26, 28,5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Barren County High School.Beginning computers is perfect for one that needs to know the basics ofcomputers. Learn to save and retrieve files, select and use various programs, print documents, use the mouse, and learn about computer settings and files. Instructor: Tina Wilson Cost: $25

i-Phone Basics – Tuesday and Thursday, January 19 & 21, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Glasgow High School. Need to learn the very basics of using your i-Phone? Like how to add contacts, how to use the camera and change orientations? All this and tons more will be covered in i-Phone Basics! Jamie Houchen, Instructor. Cost: $20

Intermediate Excel –Mondays and Wednesdays, February 1, 3, 8, 10, 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Barren County High School. In this class you will learn how to create charts, format charts and manipulate data within charts. You will also learn about styles and themes and how to customize them. It will also include conditional formatting and its uses. This class is recommended for the Excel user wanting to expand their knowledge of Excel. Debbie Russell, Instructor. Cost; $30

Micro Soft Word – Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 1, 3, 8, 10 5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Barren County High School. Learn how to format a Microsoft Word document, type a recipe, flyer, letter, and more. In this introductory class, you will format the font, paragraphs, and page, create columns, and add page borders as well as insert pictures.Tina Wilson, Instructor.Cost: $30

PowerPoint – Tuesday and Thursdays, April 26, 28, May 3, 5,5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Barren County High School. Create a PowerPoint presentation. We will apply themes, transitions, and insert photos. Make a powerful presentation using a few easy skills. Tina Wilson, Instructor. Cost: $30

QuickBooks – Mondays and Wednesdays, March 7, 9, 16, 21, 23, 28,5:30 – 7:30 p.m. at Barren County High School. Learn how to: set up your company and customize it; set up and customize invoices; set up vendors and write checks; set up employees and write checks; print monthly, yearly or quarterly reports and customize them; and reconcile your monthly bank statement. Crocheting – Dates and location to be announced. In class, we will learn how to crochet starting with the

basic stitches: chain, single, half double, and double crochet. We will learn about the different types of yarn

and crochet hooks, and we will learn how to read and follow a crochet pattern. Additionally, we will explore

the vast wealth of free information and patterns that can be found on the Internet. Leisha Leech, Instructor.

SAFETY

Drivers’ Education– Thursdays and Mondays (2) February 4, 11, 25, March 3, 7, 10, 17, 21, 24, 31 from 3:30 – 6:30 p.m. at Barren County High School. Class includes 30 hours of class time and 6 hours of individual drive time in our specially equipped car. The class will include: some lecture, various speakers, videos and other activities designed to make the youth a safer driver. Some insurance companies provide a discount for completing this course. Class is for ages 16 and above. Glenn Flanders, Instructor. Cost: $175
