C.2. A clear identification of each proposed change.
See Comparison of programs above. Changes have been delineated this a + for deleted courses, * for additional courses, and by showing all changes in bold.
C. 3. a/b/c. Course Number, Name and Catalog Description of courses added in this revision followed by a brief statement explaining why the course should be added to the program:
MUS 108 – Audio Production I: This course is taught in Rochester at RCTC. The student will learn basic terminology, theory and practice of modern recording techniques, and become proficient at operating analog and digital recording equipment. Students will be given individual lab time for audio production projects. Prerequisites: None.
The addition of MUS 108, Audio Production I, will make students in this degree program more knowledgeable about technology relating specifically with music. This knowledge is vital in the music business world today.
Music 109 - Intro. to Music: Study of the elements of music, fundamental techniques, and formal patterns. Stylistic traits of Baroque, Classic, Romantic and modern periods. Brief biographies of outstanding composers. Acquisition of familiarity with representative works through recordings.
The inclusion of MUS 109, Introduction to Music, will provide students with a necessary overview of music history and literature at the beginning of their program, giving them vital information and helping put their course of study into a broader, clearer perspective. Students cannot enroll in Music History (MUSIC 351 and 352) until four semesters of music theory are completed. The knowledge of forms, genres, composers, stylistic traits, etc. would enhance learning in applied study as well as in theory.
Music 440 - American Art Music: Music in America from the time of the Puritans to the present day. Historical, biographical material and listening. For the general student as well as for music majors and minors. Prerequisite: MUS 109 or equivalent.
Music 440 emphasizes the art music of the United States. Music 109 and the Music History sequence focus primarily on the music of Europe, notably the music of Italy, Germany, and France. Students need to know the music of their homeland, and the profound contributions of U.S. composers to the Classical music panorama.
Changes in the organization of choices available in the degree program.
Under “Requirements” we are proposing that students be able to elect any combination of credits in Conducting (MUS 306), Orchestration (MUS 301), or Instrumental Methods (MUS 311-314) courses. In doing this, we shift the focus from the Methods courses to courses dealing with practical aspects of music, while still allowing students interested in music marketing the opportunity to take the Methods courses and gain a working knowledge of the products with which they will deal in their careers. We also add Music Technology II (MUS 207) and Audio Production (MUS 208) to options within the music course requirements to place greater emphasis on music technology.
Deleted Course: Under Business Requirements, we propose to eliminate BUSA 312 (Business Computer Programs). By dropping this course from the degree requirements we will be bringing the music/business course ratio more in line with the standards established by the National Association of Schools of Music.
Changes in Program Credits: We have deleted 7 credits from the existing program and added 9. We have a total of 15 credits within the program that double count for University Studies and the Major. (World Music (MUS 114) – Multicultural Perspectives; Music Theory III (MUS 203) – Critical Analysis; Financial Accounting Principles (ACCT 211) – Contemporary Citizenship; Principles of Microeconomics and Principles of Macroeconomics (ECON 201 and 202) – Social Science)
The existing program is 94 S.H. + 46 Univ. Studies = 140 S.H. - 15 credits (those that double count) = 125 S.H.
The revised program is 96 S.H. + 46 Univ. Studies = 142 S.H. – 15 credits (those that double count) = 127 S.H.

FINANCIAL AND STAFFING DATA SHEET
Course or Program___B.A. Major – Music (Business)______
Include a Financial and Staffing Data Sheet with any proposal for a new course, new program, or revised program.
Please answer the following questions completely. Provide supporting data.
1. Would this course or program be taught with existing staff or with new or additional staff? If this course would be taught by adjunct faculty, include a rationale.
The revised program will be taught with the existing faculty. The only required courses included that are not already offered on a regular basis are MUS 440, American Art Music and MUS 108, Audio Production. We will be able, by rotating the course assignments, to use existing faculty to teach the American Art Music course. Audio Production is offered in Rochester and will be provided on a partnership basis with RTCT, thereby not causing any increase in our staffing needs.
We also are adding two more choices among several courses already offered. Both of these additional courses are taught at RTCT.
2. What impact would approval of this course/program have on current course offerings? Please discuss number of sections of current offerings, dropping of courses, etc.
The revised program will only effect current course offerings by adding MUS 440, American Art Music, to the courses offered on a regular basis. We will probably teach the course in alternating years at a minimum and every year when faculty loads allow. The 3 courses offered at RTCT, again, do not impact our current course offerings except to augment them without cost to our department.
3. What effect would approval of this course/program have on the department supplies? Include data to support expenditures for staffing, equipment, supplies, instructional resources, etc.
There will be minimal costs to the department for supplies needed to teach the American Art Music class. As teaching loads in our department fluctuate with student demands for studio lessons in the different performing areas, we will minimize costs for staffing by rotating the teaching assignment for American Art Music class, having faculty with lower applied loads in a particular semester fit it into their schedule.
