Windy Gap Packing List

Contacting Your Child

Due to Windy Gap’s location in the mountains, cell phone coverageis inconsistent with most providers (including leaders’ cell phones).Pay phones are located on the property. Messagescan also be left on the Windy Gap’s general voicemail box. (828) 645-7187. These messages are checked periodically throughout the weekend and will be forwarded to your child. If you have an emergency, please call our emergency cell phone number at.(828) 337-3937

What to Bring

All bedding (sheets, towels, and blankets) are provided by Windy Gap. *(I would recommend bringing an extra towel)*

  • Toiletries – Bring basic toiletries. However, if your child forgets something, most items can be purchased at the Windy Gap Store
  • Shoes – Closed-toed shoes are required from some activities.
  • Medications – Our medical staff or the medical staff associated with your child's group would be more than happy to assist your child in taking their needed medications. Please contact your child's trip leader about your child's medication regime.
  • Special Dietary Needs – Our Food Service Team is very willing to work with your child's dietary needs. Please contact your child's trip leader or Windy Gap ahead of time to communicate those needs.
  • Spending Money – The Windy Gap Store, the Snack Bar, and Coffee Shop will probably be open sometime during your child's stay at Windy Gap. Additional spending money will be needed for purchases.
  • Camera – Memories at Windy Gapare unforgettable. Encourage your child to show YOU what that is all about with photographs!
  • Calling Card – Cellular service at Windy Gapis not very predictable or dependable. There are pay phones located throughout the camp that will allow collect calls or the use of calling cards. Calling cards can also be purchased at the Windy Gap Store.
  • Proper Clothing – Camper should bring enough clothing to have an outfit for each day plus an extra. These clothes are just normal, running around clothes. The weather fluctuates from relatively hot to cool in the nights so clothes that can be layered would be helpful. Also bringing an extra set of undergarments is suggested.
  • Dressy Clothes – There will be a banquet one night during camp and your child should bring one outfit of more “dressy” clothes. This doesn’t have to be formal but a button down for men and clothes a female may wear to a dinner.
  • Messy Clothes – Camper should bring one pair of clothes that they don’t mind getting dirty or wet.
  • Western Clothes – Camper should bring one “western themed” outfit. This can be a plaid/flannel shirt with jeans/boots. Doesn’t have to be something that you go out and buy. Just something you could dress up to be Western.
  • Jeans – camper should bring a pair of jeans for an activity
  • Swimming – swim suit
