Long Form System Disk Rebuild Procedure for the Profile XP

Please Read the following:

If you are not able to repair the Windows NT operating system using theemergency repair disk process and you are not able to receive an exchange system disk in a timely manner you may consider rebuilding the system hard disk drive. Before re-installing Windows NT you may consider booting MS-DOS and running SCANDISK to examine the system disk for disk problems and repairing the drive if necessary. A system disk rebuild procedure outline follows the optional scandisk listed below.

Optional Scandisk Procedure:

Note: If your Profile XP has the redundant option, it will be necessary to change the BIOS to use the Removable device as the first boot device. The procedure to do this starts on Page 4 of this procedure.

  1. Obtain a bootable DOS disk with a copy of Scandisk.
  2. Insert the bootable DOS disk in the floppy disk drive and reboot the machine. At the DOS prompt type scandisk and then press the Enter key.
  3. When prompted, select YES to start disk surface scan
  1. If surface problems are reported, stop this procedure and order anew Profile system drive from Grass Valley Group. If no problems werereported proceed with the System Disk RebuildProcedure.
  2. Exit scandisk without saving a log.

Part 6: Add RS422 Rocket Card Driver

Part 7: Miscellaneous Setup and Auto Logon

Part 8: Setup the User Account Desktop

Part 9: Installation Cleanup

Part 1: Installation Overview.

Windows NT 4.0 Installation:

This deletes all information on the system drive, loads a fresh copy of Windows NT 4.0 on the system disk and creates the partitions necessary.

Install Network Adapter:

The Network Adapter is loaded at this time so that when the Service Pack is installed it can modify as necessary network services. Also, some of the network services are necessary to support applications software. Any time NT components are added or removed the Service Pack should be reinstalled.

Service Pack 3 and Y2K Fix:

The service pack is loaded after the network adapter because it modifies adapters and services in the system. If you remove any components or devices you must reload the service pack to reconfigure the system software and hardware properly. The Y2K is for date compliance.

Video Driver Installation:

The video driver is installed after the service pack because of a conflict with Service Pack three installation.

Internet Explorer 5.01:

Ie5 is installed onto the Profile XP because it is used with the NetCentral applications software. Without the explorer NetCentral will not work.

First load of Profile XP Software:

In order for the host CPU and the i960 CPUs on the video side to communicate with each other, they need a program called an Interprocessor messaging service. The XP software installation program with no flash loads the IPM driver and the system reboot installs it. This double loading of Profile XP software is only necessary on a blank disk rebuild. Once the IPM Driver is installed it will remain.

Second load of Profile XP Software:

Now that the IPM driver is installed in the previous step, the software can be loaded and NVRAM flashed.

SNMP.reg file load:

The NetCentral program requires a dependency between PDR Access Control Service and the SNMP Service. The SNMP file is a self installing program and includes the registry data necessary for the linkage requirement.

Part 2:Initial Installation.

The Profile XP with the redundant option has the LS-120 Super Disk in place of the floppy drive. The three Windows NT Setup floppy disks will not function in the LS-120.
