Newsletter No.528 June 2016

The sun was shining, the birds were singing and currently there is a very loud thunderstorm – summer has arrived!

Welcome to our June Newsletter.

Members of the committee will be out and about at the end of this month to select the winners of our annual front garden competition so there’s no time to lose. Get those raincoats on and start weeding!

Emails

It would be helpful if we could collect emails for residents so that we can communicate some information more quickly and contact residents in addition to the newsletter. This is particularly important during the consultation for the Broxbourne Borough Local Plan. Whilst we know that many people do not use email it is hoped that enough people in a road use email to be able to communicate the information to their neighbours if needed. We will of course continue to print and distribute the newsletter and place a copy of the newsletter on the website. The email will only be used by the association for association business. If you would like to receive emails could you please email our secretary Linda Russell on and provide your name, house number and road in the text area. Many thanks.

Work completed

·  A member of the arboriculture team inspected the tree in Penton Field to which a ladder had been nailed and confirmed it has not caused significant damage. After several telephone calls the debris was removed by a different team along with a car tyre and wheel.

·  The partially concealed deep hole in the grass verge near to the corner of Roundmoor Drive and Landmead Road has been filled in by Herts CC and they have made a note that at some point the kerb will need reconstruction work.

·  The council carried out a clean of the hedge in front of Edwick Court.

·  For those who attended the Cheshunt Forum it appears that the concerns regarding anti-social behaviour by the Cadmore Lane shops have been resolved by installing an additional camera.

Work in progress

·  Bellamy Road - We have been informed that only the broken sign will now be replaced as the stained sign still functions adequately. Road signs are installed in groups and this has delayed installation of the new sign. The sign was placed on a job list in March so we are chasing its replacement regularly.

·  There are regular emails between the association and council regarding the Roundmoor shops bin and the cigarette ends in the parking bay gutter. We have asked for a proper cigarette caddy and if possible a dog bin. They council are emptying the bin more frequently and the position is under review.

·  The committee will be contacting the council regarding the weeds that are rapidly growing in the roads and on the pavements.

·  Some of the pavement in Cadmore Lane is becoming difficult to use in the evenings and at weekends because cars are parked almost completely on the pavement. Whilst this is not an uncommon feature across the estate having to use the road instead of the pavement in this case is very dangerous. Clearly the residents and their visitors need to park somewhere but the committee felt it would be helpful if there was a parking guide line. The council have agreed to discuss the possibility with us.

Rubbish!

Many residents place their bins out the night before the refuse collection. One resident discovered that a dog walker had placed bagged dog excrement in his bin which had subsequently broken and soiled the bin. Please be aware!

Domestic waste is still being placed in the Roundmoor Stores bin or near to it if it is full. This includes a bulky bag of beer cans on at least a weekly basis. This is clearly not helping the ongoing problem we have with the bin. Could we please remind residents that they can get extra boxes and bins from the council free of charge if required.

Lights

All street lights have a large number – you will see it stuck to the lamppost about 8 ft from the ground. There is an excellent fault reporting system for those who use computers. All you need to do is go to the Hertfordshire County Council website and type ‘street light’ in the search area, it will take you to the fault reporting section. Two street lights one in Roundmoor Drive and one in Winton Drive were reported faulty in this way and repaired within two days. If you do not have use of a computer, you can contact the Highways department on 0300 123 4047 with the lamppost number.

Dates for your diary

The Broxbourne Borough Local Plan

The date for the Local Plan remains towards the end of July. As soon as it is published we will let residents know how they can access it electronically or get a copy.

Protect Your Money

As mentioned in our last newsletter we will be running a ‘Protect Your Money’ session at Millbrook School. We hope to book this for either Wednesday 14th or Thursday 15th September. The event is run by the Hertfordshire Constabulary and raises awareness of the techniques used in common money scams to help prevent further victims. Please try and keep these dates free.

Council Open Day

The Broxbourne Community Open Day will take place on Saturday 2 July between 2pm - 5pm at the Borough Offices in Cheshunt. This is a family fun day and features attractions and entertainment for all ages. The event usually attracts over 70 local organisations which this year include an inflatable funfair, face painting, kayaking on the New River, a ride-on model railway, live music and dance, and Cheshunt Horticultural Society's Summer Show. Hertfordshire Heavy Horse Association, Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue Service and Paradise Wildlife Park will also be present. Entry to the event in free, although some attractions may be chargeable.

Mannings Fair

Many will remember Mannings Fair arriving in town just in time for the school summer holiday and the town carnival. We no longer have the carnival and the fair stopped visiting town in 1986. Mr Manning will be 80 this year and to celebrate the fair will return on the 20th August to the Laura Trott centre. It is hoped there will be photographs of the fair from 30, 40 and 50 years ago.
